Struts actually have very little to do with ride height. The springs set the height and the struts control the dampening. I think that either something is wrong with the installation, wheel/tire combo, or perhaps the wrong spring application was sent to you. The shock/strut travel is only that. That is why stock struts blow after awhile of driving on a lowered car. They can't handle the load and travel.
