#3454, "GSX is down again..."

One thing after another....got the car all running good and everything, ready for DSMlink, my cousin is in town and a friend...showing off the car a little bit, and I ended up blowing a radiator hose or something...ANTIFREEZE everywhere!!! Slipping belts, shorting out battery, and somehow my tranny doesn't like coming out of 1st gear.

*Sigh* This car could make me cry

and thus the reason why you shouldnt buy a already heavily modded car. you dont know for sure what has happened with it or what is problems are. yeah my car is slow but its runs awesome since its so close to stock, and then i get to know its quirks and such

So far the car has not had THAT many problems, just a bunch of little tiny problems that are driving me nuts. JSupertn(sp) that car SHOULD have 300+HP, unverified to date yet, the engine runs good...now...pulls very hard, and I think the money I am putting into small repairs has probably totalled like $200, which in my eyes, is still worth it for the price I paid to not have to install everything that is on it.

My 2gnt is heavily modded and it runs like a champ. It's never left me stuck anywhere, and it's quick. Sell it and buy an NT - Team 2GNT.

Seriously, what do you think happens when you start modding cars. You want to go fast then you are going to break shit....plain and simple. How many problem free modded cars do you know of?

lol, replace all the broken or slightly malfunctioning parts w/ newer, stronger parts that make your car faster and more reliable. I've been doing that on my vr4 for a year ... $10k later it still doesn't run right bahahahaha

IT is never fun if it is easy. Radiator hose is an easy fix. Water Pump may be alittle more of a problem if broken.....lol.

Maybe you guys can help me diagnose my problem.

Filled up the radiator with water, topped it off, didn't take much, then I went to the carwash to wash all the shit off from the "incident". I start spraying away and this shit is not coming off. Antifreeze should come off no problem with hot water. It is darker than antifreeze, so I'm wondering if it is A) oil from the headgasket, or B) oil from the tranny.

The lower radiator hose has signs of leakage, gross green crusty stuff around the end of the hose, but when I'm watching underneith there, I can't see it spraying anywhere! I talked to my dad, told him with the extra water in the antifreeze mixture the car starts to overheat fairly quickly with very little throttle, he thinks that could be a blown headgasket. (Probably should change that anyway) What I don't understand, if the headgasket blew, how would it get clear the hell over everything? If it is antifreeze, why won't it wash off.

Also, this shit must have gotten on the belts. When I first noticed the problem, the belts squeeked like a motherF. Here is the weird part about the belts...when the car is at idle there are no squeeks or anything, but when my RPMs get over 1K the belts squeek when the car is first started and the battery and parking break lights come on. WTF As soon as the car goes back down to idle the 2 lights go back out. I don't get

To top it all off, whatever sprayed all over, either broke my boost controller knob, or melted 1/2 of it off...very strange.

If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I am baffled on this one and could really use your help.

Maybe it is time to blame the operator for the endless problems instead of the car?

Sounds like you blew the shit out of the headgasket. Either that or you have a serious leak in your coolant system that you somehow can't find.

I never said it was the cars fault...I was running the car very very hard this weekend. I'm starting to lean towards a tranny fluid problem. This stuff that is sprayed all over the engine bay does not come off with bug/tar/oil remover and my neighbor came out and said tranny fluid will either discolor the paint or remove it...it is doing both.

Jeff, I'm sure the problem is me...that car would be running just fine if I hadn't been so hard on it. The first few things I have fixed have been warn out things I noticed when I bought the car, I knew they were going to be problems, just didn't know when. This is the first one that is really surprising.

Edit: It could be battery acid, but there is very little anything on the battery...it is everywhere else though.

Here is another question...do you guys think it is safe to drive my car 2 miles each way to work? or should I just park the car and find another way to get to work until I get it fixed?

A) To diagnose the problem, post this in the 1g section so it doesn't get lost out of place in the pits.

B) Driving the car hard at all without some sort of monitoring device is plain terrible. Who knows how the car is running, and what issues it has. I understand how much you want to get it running and out on the road, but trust me, doing what you are doing (no monitoring) is going to end up destroying the engine and getting the car off the road for a year.

Be smart. Take care of the little stuff first, then romp on it. I learned my lesson the very hard way, and I hope you won't have to do the same. In 1 month, my car will have been off the road for 1 year due to my stupidity. Don't do it to yourself.

It's running again shitheads.

I don't get To top it all off, whatever sprayed all over, either broke my boost controller knob, or melted 1/2 of it off...very strange. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I am baffled on this one and could really use your help.

you try tightening your belts, most loose belts will squeak when given a little throttle. also, your battery light coming on could be your belt not turning enough since it is slipping. the brake light indicates low fluid. dont know where you live but sometimes mine comes on when it is really cold on a cold start. it gets thick. probly needs changed or topped off.
the boost controller button may be too close to your manifold or too close to the radiator hose. it does get hot under there. good luck.

1st things first:
Find whats leaking and where it's leaking from....

If the coolant was still almost full, I doubt it was coolant.
Drain EVERYTHING, flush and replace it. Coolant, oil, tranny fluid...
Make sure to drain coolant and oil into clear containers to look for mixture in case it is the HG.
Then start it up and look for leaks. If you don't see any right away, take it for a nice easy drive then park it and let it sit. Check for fresh puddles after a few min.

I hafta disagree on this one. You have a multitude of problems, but the batt light/ebrake light combo indicates a bad alternator, probably from the fluid spraying. The diff. in RPM only makes me think this is more true. however, the diff in RPM could also mean the belt is slipping at higher RPM making the alternator not turn, i.e. bad readout. But this is a small fish we're trying to fry here, find the leak first, then change the alt. belt, and if the light prob still persists the alternator is probably shot.

I'm pretty sure I have the problem finalized. The battery in the car blew a cap and sprayed all over my engine compartment...it has gotten on my paint, I/C pipes, intake piping, BOV, firewall, heat shield on hood, pictures to follow...I have contacted my battery company and they will be running an investigation for possible damage compensation.

that boost controller knob looks like it was broken off and not burned or heated. if the liquid is battery acid, sue. dont know if battery acid comes off of paint and equipment.

The boost knob was just fine hours before this happened...it has to have been "eaten" by the acid. I'm not worrying about sueing at this point. I have already contacted the battery company and they are going to look into (investigation, I think) and they have asked me to put together an estimated damage figure for them. They are very pleasant to work with, hopefully it all works out.

I've had my red top for 3 yrs with no problems. I thought they were Gel-cell. Wouldn't that have been thicker and not so watery?
