#93850, "whp and times for stock motor 420aT"

i was just wondering what has been the fastest and the most whp on 420aT's, i have a esi with a t3t4 garrett, portfueler with 500cc injectors, aeromotive 1:1 regulator, 24-10-3 intercooler, halmann boost controller, and a spec stage 3 clutch, everthing else is stock.
my car put down 308whp and 305ftlbs at 16psi and has been up and running for about 2 months now, no need to tell me what i should do with my car =, I AM WELL AWARE OF WHAT THE LIMITS SHOULD BE!!

I find it hard to believe its stock. I didnt know our rings could hold up to 16psi and be fine. But good numbers and hope you hit 12's.

Yea bro, that's a little much for stock internals. If you did do that, great, but it won't last long. Your going to have to have one hell of a 60 ft. time to pull off mid to low twelves.

I don't doubt what you say, but your engine is going to blow very soon if you keep running that amount of boost on a stock motor. I guess have fun while it lasts.

I think many fail to understand why a motor dies. Our motors do not tend to throw rods or anything completely destructive such as many domestic motors I've delt with. We run a hyper. type piston that really can withstand some abuse. It is when detonation of either a hot spot, too early or too late ignition, or simply not enough fuel magnifies a weak spot in a piston (shallow ring lands). He's obviously got the right tuning capabilities may have to make many trips to a dyno to get it right. Maybe we have another freak. If he is willing to push the envelope like many of the guys that started here (Murix, Dino, ect..) then I say go for it.

I dunno but we have a lot of Honda boys up here making 300+ whp on their stock bottom ends boosting 12, 14, 15psi and driving around like that for a long time. Maybe it'll be okay.

Since when are 420A motors anything like Honda motors? They are built a lot better and WAY more people have boosted them so they have blown plenty of motors before and have learned from other peoples mistakes. There are still things people are figuring out w/ these motors.

supposedly Hondas can only take 250whp on the stock bottom end.. but these local guys are flying right in the face of that and their cars have been going for years. the same thing probably goes for us as well.

just got back from the track, the first run was better than i would expect it was a 12.6 @ 108mph with a 1.859 60ft
the second run of the night went like this
1.78360ft
5.148 330
7.963 1/8
87.22 mph
10.407 1000ft
12.476 1/4
108.03 mph
i thought i had broke my tranny but actually the c-clip shook off somewhere down the 12.4 run, we fixed it and then my friend got the last pass of 12.7 @107mph.
i will try to have the slips and dyno stuff scanned soon but there was a witness who is on this board rssmokedu or something like that.
I SHOULD HAVE THEM UP SOON!

You know I must give you a thumbs up for being different and trying(and doing) all this on a stock motor. That said. The downside of someone seeing this thread is that now you will have every Tom, Dick and Harry out there who has a portfueller and frontmount thinking they don't need a built bottom end to support the higher power levels.

So for all of you out there that think you can just throw larger injectors and a front mount on you car, be warned this is NOT the recomended path that should be taken. It only takes one little sniff of detonation and one or more of the ring lands will break.

definately good times, do you have an lsd? I'm surprised the axles held up with slicks, anyways a 1.7 60' is kick ass congrats, 108 is what I trapped now if i can only get my 60' down to that that would kick ass

the tranny has no lsd, maybe if i decide to go further with the car and build the motor, pnp and build the valvetrain, i will install an lsd at the same time.

yeah you are right about that but i dont think that is high power levels, with a built motor i dont see a problem at all getting 450+whp with supporting mods. most people just think i just threw on a turbo and turned the boost to 16psi and blam 300+, that is not at all true and probably would not have been able to get to that level with some shitty fmu, imo the portfueler is a pretty good route to go and advise people to go that route instead of an fmu. NOT SAYING ANYONE CAN TUNE WITH THE R4 PROGRAM BUT IS GOOD IF SOMEONE HAS KNOWLEDGE WITH FUEL MAPS AND ACCESS TO A DYNO!!
PEACE AND THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS!

First and foremost, my compliments and praise for running that much power on a stock bottom end. It also looks like you can drive too I hope the car holds up, as those are very nice numbers. Congrats!

Three questions:

First: What type of turbo? I know you said T3/T4, but are you willing to share any more about it?

Second: Why is your name awddynamite?

Third: Have you gotten a chance to post the timeslips?

Thanks much,
Brian

it is a standard garrett t3t4 60 trim with a 63ar hotside, i picked that name because my real race car is a 91 awd talon which has almost 700whp and hopefully soon around 900whp, but untill that is up i will be fucking around with the 420a and i havent gotten my friend to scan them yet.

So far this is just talk. Really now. You would be doing everyone a favor by posting a dynochart.

It's not that I don't believe you or anything, I just want to see it. No one has gone this far on a stock motor and it would pretty much be the thread of the year if you posted all the info on your setup w/ dyno/timeslips.

If I could meet you in person I would shake your hand.

Excellent numbers. I'm surprised the stock piston/rings held up though. I'd be careful if I were you; statistically, our stock engine doesn't fair well above 12 psi.

Wholly crap dude you can drive!!!!!! I have no dought with a good tune the bottom will hold that much psi. You are the first person I can think of that boosted thier 420a and installed ems at or around the same time on a stock block. Most people boost the stock motor with a sfmu or fmu. Then blow it up. Then build it. Then if they want more(most do) they go ems. Props dude. Now paint your bumper. lol

I am going with the GT35 turbo next year. Good luck with the setup, and keep us updated. I am gonna push this SC61 up to 25psi and get used to everything and then upgrade. A friend of mine has an SRT4 with a GT40 and it pulls like hell and i wouldnt mind having a GT35.

While in the burnout box you turn your wheel left and right real fast. Its a common practice for most peg legged FWD guys who have been racing for more than a week. Also I do my burnouts in Second gear which is usually two fast for just one tire to spin.

I'm still in disbelief, but fucking hell, congratulations.

Curious, what fuel octane, and what ignition (msd?) were you using?

You're definitely the first. Only other person that has pushed a stock block that far is Tommyboy, and I believe he maxed out at 12psi.

I too ran 12-14psi w/ SFMU on stock block for over 3 years starting back back in 2001.(the posts are in the archives somewhere). Regardless, there is much to commended on if it is completely legit.

I didn't see the link until now, but I, coincidentally, came across that video on Streetfire.net last night, and was just about to post who's car it was. Great run & launch!!

I don't have LSD's either, and turning the wheels left & right definitely helps (of course I still can't launch anything < a 2.0 60 ft. ) I'll keep the 2nd gear burnout in mind.

I don't.

I want video of you in the car with the two forms of picture id, your mother with your birth certificate and a cop with your fingerprints. and you singing "piss on you". with pictures of you and the car. And the time slips, and dyno sheets with a notary stamping both of them.

Give it a rest dude.

I believe it only after the video at the track.

Why is it so hard to believe. We know it won't last very long but I totally think it's do-able.

There was a time when people said 1g rod couldnt handle anything past 400hp.. Several cars making 600hp on stock blocks. All in the tune and a little luck.

Congrats man!

I know you don't need it, but you got my support. We've had a few pioneers on this board & we could always keep adding to the list.
