#90775, "Saddest day ever . . . wrecked my X"

Yep. I was riding with Mike and Stormi, the 2 new members of the board, driving on the 202 westbound transitioning onto the 101 in Chandler, going faster than I should have been around the corner, not used to taking corners on the 16" rims with the baloon tires and I just honestly lost control of the car...very sad times for me...all that work, possibly for nothing, and a full giant turbo setup sitting on my couch. Here are the pics so far.

I'm so sad right now. All that time, blood, sweat, passion. I miss my car so much already.

Um, maybe I'm missing something, but why were you on 16's? Arizona doesn't have winters like Chicago.

Nonetheless, that sucks. That was a bangin car.

Hey guys, I appreciate your kind words. The reason I had the 16's on is because earlier this month I ran over a pothole and broke one of my 18" rims.

I don't know if the car will be fixable or not, but I'll keep you guys updated.

I wanna be an optimist. Looks bad, but also looks fixable to me from the pics as long as you didn't mess up your wheel alignment every thing else is just sheet metal. Just another chance to upgrade. Keep it clean as before, Good Luck.

Damn. That sucks man. It's hard to see the pics of your car all smashed up. It doesn't look unrepairable though. If I were you I would get a cheap car just to get around for now and slowly rebuild the X. Good Luck man. I hope everything works out okay. Keep us posted.

It doesn't look too bad. I have that corner of the core support still good if you need it. PM me I can give you a 2ga front cover and driver's fender as well if interested (both are black) for cost of shipping.

Just don't get too down about it it's not as bad as mine:

Dan, for some reason I can't post to az2gnt the last two days so I couldn't leave you a message there.

I'm glad you are safe and don't worry...

you'll have a bad ass car once more.

Let's talk.

My 95 GS parts car is a willing donor. Give me a ring. Maybe Paul can give you are ride over when we pull the windshield tomorrow (we re-scheduled until Sunday anyway).

If there is one thing that I learned at the body shop is.... there is no such thing as a total loss, just lots of work and patience. Good luck with the rebuild son, you can make it better, you have the Technology.

Shit Dan, I bet the first thing you dreaded was having to come on here and tell everyone

I've felt your pain before as you guys know I almost totaled my car off doing something similar.

I'm glad to hear YOUR okay. It's just a piece of metal and can be replaced.

Well guys, some of the details are in. I have not had an adjuster in to look at the car yet, but I talked with the body shop and got to see what all was damaged. Obviously the front bumper, front left fender, hood, windshield, headlights, foglights, and front core support are toast. Along with it, it took out my FMIC, totally f-ed up, A/C condensor, possibly power steering pump, and it even took out my brand new Fluidyne radiator, along with the 2 fans that punched holes in it. It looks like there is some frame damage, but Kevin didn't think it looked too bad. Believe it or not, he thinks upper and lower strut tower bar equaled out a lot of the force throughout the car and didn't cause as much damage as it could have. The engine looks fine with exception to a couple minor details. No buckling of the roof or even enough damage to have made it all the way back to the door. The suspension looks fully intact except for the driver's front tire, which is all ripped up.

I got some pictures last night when I looked at the car. I'm sorry they are so big, but the detail just makes it that much sweeter . Adjuster should be looking at the car later today or tomorrow. I will have more details as they come in.

Well, the verdict is in...

The GSX is totaled.

I just got off the phone with my adjuster and the news gets worse from there. He scalded me for most likely not having an aftermarket endorsement of $10K on the car. I talked with him about buying the car back, and that is where the news gets worse. Since I have a lein holder on the car, I most likely CAN'T BUY IT BACK!!! WHAT THE FUCK!! So, now I might get totally fucked on my ride for what it's worth (my fault on the aftermarket stuff) but then I can't buy it back either. So, not only will I lose out on my loan, but I can't recoup the cost by selling probably $6K worth of parts off of it.

I'm so sad, so much more than I thought I would be. I actually cried tonight just thinking about how much time I put into that car making it everything I ever wanted out of a car.

I'm sorry guys, sorry to let you all down so badly. Like I've said, I will most likely be leaving the DSM family, but you all know I will always still be here.

Your insurance company has to give you first option to buy it back. Regardless of whether there is a lein on it or not. If they try to screw you like that just count your losses from the insurance and don't take the settlement. Hook up with us who have the spare parts laying around and fix it. I have a core support and a fender you can have for cost of shipping I'll give you a tower cut so you can have pleanty of metal to work with. 2Gb Bumper covers are getting more readily available. and I'm sure you can get headlights for less than 200. See if you can get someone to paint those parts up and help you weld the core support in. Throw your stock Radiator back in and see if you can't hook up with a decent condition FMIC from one of the boards. I'm not saying it's going to be easy but it's better than getting screwed by your insurance over something that is an accident. I'd say if you do the work yourself and get a hook up on the paint you could potentially have it fixed for under 1500-2k.
LMK if you want the coresupport and fender I'll do my best to get those to you as soon as I get home from Iraq in January.

It is not that easy though. The reason they totaled it is because the frame damage goes all the way down the driver's side of the car, all the way. The entire frame on the driver's side would have to be replaced. The damage goes into the firewall and over to the passenger side frame as well.

Ouch, that really sucks. Nicest gsx I ever seen. If they won't let you buy it back, that really sucks, even worse. Goodluck man, shit I would cry if my car was wrecked too, mine ain't even half as nice as yours.

Maybe they will put it in a wrecking yard and you could buy it back then? Just a thought, I don't know what they do with the cars once they take them.

looks like 2g's worth of damage.

The inssurance ppl just dont want to deal with it and you.

The car will go to an auction, there dealers and yards get first dibs
it will be sold for 2g's and

A- get fixed and sold
b- get used for parts

Sad but true.

thats just fucked dude, sorry to hear.

couldnt you go to the body shop and bring your oem parts and yank off whatever you can?

I know about a month ago my friend totalled his accord and we just went to the shop the next day with the stock parts and yanked what we could. His insurance said the car had to have the parts on it, whether they were his aftermarket shit or oem they didnt care so we took anything that wasnt damaged.

Good luck man

x2

I fucked my car up way worse then that, a straight shot to the frame, and it was not a write-off, it was only $3800cdn to fix and replace my front fender, door, window, repaint the hood, roof, front bumper, fender, door, fix the floor, cut off the old rocker panel and weld a new one on, and straighten the frame.
edit: I had to source all parts from a junkyard though, using new parts it was over $8k to fix (doors are $2200!)

Well everyone, I got my news today about the car. Geico actually pulled through and valued the car at over $10K. Guy initially thought around $7K so they were going to total it, they are still going to, but I bet he might regret it a bit now.

Now, my situation. I get 10K for the car that I still owe the bank 8K on. I have to pay off my car loan to Wells Fargo and get a salvage title in order to purchase the car back for around $2K from Geico, which I plan on doing. All in all it will be a wash, my car gets paid off, but I get to keep the scraps.

My dilemma now, I can't decide if I should try to fix the X or some other DSM with my parts, or if I should finally get something with a warranty, low miles, and a new motor....

Hmm, quite the dilemma. I say instead of buying it back with the 2k, use that as part of a down payment for a car w/warranty. Just a thought.
Hey, not to sound like a vulture, but what are you doing with the 18s that weren't on it during the accident. You said one was damaged? I may be interested in taking them off your hands. That may be a bit of help. LMK.

Since this car has been everything you ever wanted a car to be, HOW CAN YOU NOT FIX IT? That's why there are always so many nice cars in yards all the time. Come on man you know you don't want to go out like this. Besides how are they gonna total a $10,000 car for 2000-3000 worth of damage? Hell that's probably all my car is worth. Come on man to me this car is the Holy Grail of DSMs.

I once said in a post of yours, " Must be nice to call your car The X." Sounds sweet doesn't it?

I owuldn't fix the car as I don't belive it will be the same after fixing the totally fucked up frame It's sas to see a gsx go like this but theres lots out there and maybe it's time for a change

Hearing the news about the insurance somp. giving you 10K and buying it back for 2K, I would def do that. I'd calculate what you could get from parting it out (plus selling all the new turbo stuff) and see where you stand.

Your car will be paid off and you'll have some cash to find something else be it a dsm or not.

EDIT: Just as a refresher, heres my car after wrecking it.

mine was the same thing, except I didn't quite manage to rip the door open. That entire side of the car was "V" shaped from hitting a post and a bigass rock.

Damn man sorry to hear/see that, I love your car...If I were in the same situation here is what I would do, or at least some of my options I would consider:

A. Buy The Car Back, Get a few quotes on how much to fix (but Im assuming around $5k to fix so probably not worth it)
B. Buy The Car Back, Take off all parts sell everything you can possibly sell and look for another car (something that will make you as happy as your GSX)
C. Buy The Car Back, Look For Another GSX/GST, Put everything you can on it from your GSX (Aftermarket Wise And Other OEM Parts it needed) and then sell the Misc. other parts for a little extra cash.

To be honest No matter what I would buy the car back, cuz its your baby. If it were me I would regret not trying to anything with it at all and having some BANME! in a junkyard taking all your parts...butthis is just me...

You could buy you car back and pick up a cheap 2gnt and swap everything over. It would be possible because you have a complete doner car.

Holy Crap man, I dont post for a few months and look what I come back too.

1st. god I'm so sorry, thats like a death in the family.

2nd, Man, dont fix her, if the frame (unibody) has that much damamge it will never be 100% again. If I was you, I would take the settlement, pay off the car, buy it back and part it the F out. you can get your $2K back jsut in the turbo kit you didnt install, all the other goodies are pure profit towards another car.

If you dont buy it back, it will get bought buy some salvage yard/dealer at auction and the parts will end up on the owners kids car.

Yeah I cant type....Oh well, point made.

man... that sucks, tell geico to go screw themselves though. I have state farm had full coverage on everything in my 95 gsx, was rear ended and they totaled it gave me 6500, paid for my sub box that was damaged, and it cost me 400 to buy it back form them. Usually it would have been 200 but since it was turbo it was 400. But still that seems really high for an insurance company to want that much to buy the car back. jsut my 2 cents.

holyshit everyones crashing their cars wtf

sorry man

my car got broke into last night if that makes you feel any better, fuckin sacramento...

my best advice, get another car warranty status. work and save up some and get another x. buy your baby back on general principle. that way, you have a goal...a daily driver...and you get to bury your dead wife (so to speak)
