A question - do the inserts show a noticeable increase in anything (besides vibration)

I haven't installed them yet, but, they allow more power to make it to the ground by severely decreasing wheel hop. The ES inserts don't vibe as much as say a solid mount but you do feel them. From what I've read its not too uncomfortable

The stiffer mounts will transmit more power from the engine to the wheels. It will feel like the car grips the road better. The rear mount is the one that will give more vibrations. You will get over them because of the improved feel. You'll need about 20 inches of ratchet extension to get to the rear mount. Do a search for inserts. There's plenty of write ups and reviews. I like them.
