What your saying is not true an any means. Millions of companies are the victims of these crimes all the time.
We use all the tools at our disposal to prevent the fraud from occuring.
Several Examples: Remember back last summer when the credit card industry had 40,000 + credit card numbers and their associated data stolen? The proper response for the industry would have been to deactivate the cards. They did not. They told people to watch their bills. Many people will miss the charges, and pay the bill this just made the card holder a victim without knowing it.
Also in that same instance, we ship only to verified address, and use the other security measures provide. We can do everything right, get approval on all the information from the bank and be held financially responsible for their mistakes. Consumers and Merchants pay for the credit card companies mistakes.
Last year a jewler in NY sold $10,000 worth material. He verified all the info through normal channels, then went above and beyond and called J>P> Morgon and verfied it again on the phone. They said everything was ok. He sent the product, then it came back credit card company said it was identity theft took the $10,000 back. J.P> Morgan screwed up consumer has to fight identity theft, the merchant was held responsible for the money, and J.P. Morgan that caused everything. But J.P. Morgan took no loss, passed it all on.
The WSJ in 2003 estimated the credit card industry profits $500,000 from the crime. Consumers and Merchants are getting hit because the industry makes money off it.
And get this Visa and MasterCard have non-profit status, so they don't pay taxes.
