There's no need for a double syncro first or second. if you don't abuse them (and dragracing is not necessarily abuse) and use the correct, factory fluid they'll never fail.
Most of the money in transmissions is from internal parts. Depending on what you have replaced, the parts can cost far more than the actual labor. (One speed gear = $250!)
