Currently i have Two 12inch Infinity sub woofers. What im wondering is do you think one 500 watt rms Type R would hit harder than two 300rms infinity subs? It would be off the same aplifier, same exact setup, only difference is better box and better sub, but only one sub.
Stuff: Xbox, 7inch tft screen, 2 12inch infinity 1242w's, poweracoustic amp, pioneer HU, Tokico HP struts/springs, buddy club p1 perforance II plus 17inch wheels

What kind of type r has only 500 rms??? The infinity ref. series is a good sub for the money but the type r will sound 100 times better if it is placed in the right box. If you want it to hit hard as hell I would recommend putting it in a slotted box with about 2 cubic ft. It sounds nice if you have the amp to push it.

well im getting the type R for $225, yes i know its what it costs in the store but... im getting a Q-logic box (retails at $120) and a 4gauge rockford wiring kit, for $70 more...
bestbuy's website says that the alpine type R is 500watts RMS

NM, I am thinking of the X. I would get it from bestbuy because you can buy a service plan with it for 4 years, that way when you blow it you can take it back and get another one brand new! Yeah it does have 500 rms but is steady at much more than that.

Ok, so it will hit harder than my two 300rms 12's?
from what ive been told one speaker at 500RMS will hit harder than two at 300RMS, both my of infinity's right now are getting like 230RMS and ill be putting 560RMS to the Alpine Type R. Also, i know the person im buying the speaker from, he bought the 4 year plan on it so he said if i blow it he will take it in for me... i doubt 560RMS will blow it tho considering its only 560 at 100% volume and i never turn mine up that far
im going to be upgrading from 8 to 4 gauge wire, and im using a ported Q-Logic box, so im really hoping to get more bass from this bad boy

The power you have going to it will be fine, I have had 1600 going to it(not just burping it) and it lasted a couple of months. The box you are looking at is not bad if thats all you got, but I would get one a little bigger. The sub will starve of air if you crank it in that box. They should have one at bestbuy on display. Go listen to it.

i run 2 12" typer-r subs each powered by an apline MRV-T757 amp, they are by far the hardest cleanest subs ive heard. Alpine DEFINATLY respond differently depending on the box construction. skip the Q-logic and build a high quality sealed box (dont skimp!) and you wont regret it.
