360 degree thrust bearing is behind the compressor wheel and is much better protection from side to side wear. Ball bearing are bearings on the shaft. They have separate functions.

apples to oranges, like star turbo talon said.

maybe you meant journal bearing vs. ball bearing?

ball bearings flow more, spool sooner, are more efficient, require less oil to lubricate

journal bearings are cheaper.

This is a very good question to ask here. Many people dont know the inner working of turbo's. I am willing to bet that you couldnt explain the actual physical different of a 360* thrust versus a standard thrust bearing.

so is it really worth the extra $1000 to upgrade to ballbearing?
Or... is the 360* thrust's spooling charactoristics to close to worry about dropin' the doah?

Like they said above, the 360* has nothing to do with the BB aspect.. It doesn't affect spool AFAIK.. There is a thrust spring that pushes the bearing and the thrust collar in the CHRA, This is the stuff that goes bad to give you end play on a turbo.. Typical turbos run a 270* (Pretty sure anyway) the 360* is an upgrade as more surface area contact means more likely of a chance that trust loading will be spread out equally on the shaft/turbine...

BB being worth the price is a matter of opinion. If you are going to stay under 15lbs, no.. If you are racing mainly on the interstate, no.. If you already are experiencing traction issues on your current turbo's spool time, no... If you want the fastest spool possible from a stop, sure.. if you want the most out of your turbo, sure..

You're in luck, well sort of.. I have a T3/T4 torn apart in the garage, but my camera battery is dead, and I'm too lazy to charge it.. So here's a crappy phone pic.. But if you've ever taken apart a turbo, you'll recognize it..
