This is a cool thread...
Have you ever thought about selling your 420A before you had turbo to buy a 4G63 Humm once last year. But, I am in school, so my parents support me, and buying a turbo car would shoot the insurance through that roof. EVen right now, I have the highest insurance in my family!!! But we have full coverage.
What Influenced you to turbo the 420A? My car is SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.... I was used to driving a V6 (2000) Pontiac Grandam, and everytime I turned the AC on, I was horribly disappointed. Started with bolt-ons which promised 10hp for each one, and let's just say they were totally not worth it. So I took the plunge and got a turbo, and all it's accessories.
Are you happy that you did? Yest because I got a really cool hobby, and I love wrenching on the car, solving its issues without running to a mechanic. Sorta like a big F-U to them. It was funny, I was trying to get our former families mechanic to work on it. My dad asked them if he could install it, and he just kept saying, yes yes. So when I bought my kit to him, he back-peddled, cause he never really realized what my dad was saying. Now I am comfortable with working on my car, and aren't affraid to tackle it's issues.
What are the regrets? Yest, my bank account. All in all, my car has cost me upwards of 5000 dollars.
Still pretty slow with my current 5 psi wastegate, but I've kept my realiability which is more of what I can say for other modded 4g63, and the few 420 eclipses running into high boost numbers (with a few exceptions). I think if you keep your boost low, then realiability won't be an issue (but then again, you sacrifice speed).
What reasons do you think it was better that you did turbo the 420A then sell your car for the 4G63? (Other Than Crankwalk Issue) Lower insurance, learned to work on a car, great hobby, etc...
Conclusion: If you wanna race your car for the least amount of money (AND that is your only reason for turboing your eclipse), which sounds like that's your reason, I would totally recomment getting a faster car out of the factory. Not neccessarily a eclipse 4g63 either. I for one can't wait to buy a 350z or g35 coupe, both either supercharged or turbocharged later Actually, all of my future cars will be turbo charged. Or, for the sake of practicality, a an Evo 8 (4 door). I'm still keeping the eclipse though!!! Hell, it's paid off, it's been very good to me, and I'm too attached to my baby.
