Would the EGT's be lower if I took off the heat shield around the turbo?? Would I have less power by having lower EGT's? Can the turbo get hot enough to melt the fan? it's only like 5 inches away...

Sorry if this is dump, just curious.

*slightly* maybe yes, heat is dissipated better and not held in by that heat shield, if anything it might just cool off faster

hotter exhaust gasses flow faster, that the point...but i doubt you're losing any power

oh and about the fan. i doubt it will melt, but its possible. 1600 degrees is no joke, that'll melt a lot of shit. i'd throw the heatshield back on, why not?

Although removing your heat shield may lower your EGT's slightly, it will probably make your intake air temps higher. High or low EGT's don't necessarily mean more or less HP, it's a tool for monitoring engine performance. Are you currently having a problem with your EGT's being too high?

And yes, you fan could and probably will melt if you remove the shield. A few of my friends with 4g63's and upgraded turbos have melted theirs.

Thanks Boosted...that's all I needed to hear. I have the heat shield on, but I wanted to take it off to show off the turbo, that's all.
