#64523, "well, i blew my motor already."

i took the car to go to class today. i'm sitting at a red light and all of a sudden my oil light starts flashing. so i pull over to the side of the road and pop the hood. there is oil everywhere all over the battery and everything. i thought maybe i just had a leak from the oil sending unit, so i filled it with oil and continued to class. i got done class and was heading home. same thing again. i needed to get home so i just kept adding oil. i get back to the local garage i used to work at and we throw it on the lift. so leaking oil from the sending unit. we lower down and start it up and there is smoke and oil shooting out of the valve cover vent that goes into the intake. i lost 4 qts in 50 miles. the check engine light was on so we pulled the codes and it said to lean in bank 1. the only thing i don't get is that it still runs fine, no problems whatsoever. so what do you think, ring lands? possible something in the valvetrain or head. i need to let the garage know what i want to do.

I can't believe you were driving it around without getting your kit squared away first.

Maybe you blew your headgasket bro.

First off don't assume you blew your engine just yet.... That is my personal recommendation... I just found out today that i tore my entire engine apart only due to a bent valve... I noticed oil in my exhaust outlets on my head... I would pull the head off and look around if you can...

are you using a catch can? maybe boosted air is getting into the valve cover and pushing air up. How is your valve cover getting vented? Sorry if this sounds like a noob answer

Just run your lines into a catch can and drill another hole in you pan to run a line from the bottom of the catch can. Now you can recycle your oil emoji What have you done that could have blown the motor?

best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction)

4 quarts in 50 miles is way too much. Catch can won't solve the problem. Somehow, you are getting excessive crankcase pressure and its forcing the oil out. I would do a compression test ASAP on it, then go from there. Double check all your vac lines, and also the PCV valvle, to be sure thats working right. Check those and go from there. What does your boost gauge read at idle? Should be 17-19 Hg's of vac..Excessive crankcase pressure can also be caused by cracked ring langs, but if they are that bad, then the motor will be missfiring, have low vac at idle, and will show right away on the compression test. Could also be a head gasket. Cylinder pressure could be leaking into the oil gallerys, but thats less likely.

at idle i am at 20 vac. the car idles a little rough, shakes alot, but other than that it seems to run fine. i have to get it home and then check the compression. you can just watch the oil spray out of it. ^^ get a bigger catch can. SMART ASS. i can't fit a 5 gallon bucket under the hood emoji

Wasn't talking to you, for the record. Just hijacking your thread to shoot down some ridiculous misinformation.

Anyway. if you're losing that much oil, you're either leaking at the high pressure feed to the turbo, or you have a cracked ringland. Does the car sound kinda one-off at idle? Have you done a compression test at all?

The rough idle and the excessive oil loss seems to be a sign of bad compression in the cylinder(s). At least that's how my car was when my stock ringlands/pistons cracked. Do a compression test.

really man, for some reason i dont feel bad for you. i usually do when people pop their motors.. however it seems that over the last week you rushed and rushed and rushed your work to get the car running and it doesn't really seem like you took the time to make sure everything was installed and setup properly.

that's kind of harsh. i did not rush my installation. i just did it straight through instead of a couple days and the waiting and doing some more. everything was installed correctly with exception of that fuse i overlooked. the reason it popped i believe was because #1 it was leaned out too much by the safc and #2 it spiked to about 12psi. i wasn't rushing, just excited. believe me, i did everything right.

Sound like premature boosting to me.

Finishing quick isn't a problem if done right. And the first thing to do isn't mach the pedal, run hell bent for leather at WOT. You need to ease in, and resist the temptation to beat the hell out of her right away. What caused yoru boost spike?

Why did you hit 12psi? I told you when you installed the kit to baby the car for alittle and get the car running first and also see what psi you are at. I even asked you if you had ragged on the car yet and you said you hadn't. Since you had no idea what the boost is you need to ease into it and watch the boost gauge. Once it past 8psi I would of already shut down. No WOT until you know what boost you are running man. For whoever asked it's a Stage 1 w/ Starion FMIC (my old kit). Sorry that it's blown already but you need to take things slower. I was surprised to hear that you were going to run more boost then I did and if you blew the motor then, "o well I'll just rebuild it." Well now it's blown so isn't that what you thought would happen? Do a compression test first just to make sure. Even if compression is bad it still could be your headgasket. Good luck Mike.

Puffing out the dipstick means cracked ring lands, probably caused by boost hitting 12 psi, with a leaned out SAFC which advanced the ignitiion timing too much, causing detonation. Just a guess emoji

well, can you guys actually believe that my insurance company is probably going to cover this? i just got off the phone with them, and i need to call them back tomorrow to schedule an appointment with an adjustor. if they do, this is going to be great. built motor, lsd, clutch, sfmu, ud pulley, adjustable cams, and solid motor mounts, maybe a built head, depends on how much i get. wish me luck.

WTF? Your insurance is covering it? What's the name of your company? I'll go out right now and blow my motor if I can get a rebuilt bottom end for free.

You realize if they cover you all of the turbo stock motor 2gnt's are going to run 20 psi and blow up their motors and soon everyone on here wil be built. Good luck getting insurance to cover it. I'm curious to here this "bs story" Hope it works

Technically were all *&$^$*#(@ unless we are actually calling our insurance companies telling them that we have taken our non-turbo DSM that is at a lower rate and modified it to make it turbo charged and double the hp of the initial quote we got. Although I don't know if the insurance company is really going to cover it.

Good luck man.

Dude, they may pay for it. But not if they see a turbo under the hood. Or any other major drivetrain modification for that matter.

Why is everyone being so hard on the kid? I thought we are here to help not point out his every fault on the install. Jeesh....I am sorry everyone can't do everything right the first time around.

I hope it works out for you. IF you get it up and running again, take your time before turning up the boost. Does the logger work on the 420a engine also...if so i would get one.
