i have a garret t3 with the standard internal wategate. its being installed now. the maechanics took the wastegate actuator off to check it. they hooked it up to a pump and they said it would not move. is there something wrong with it or what, are you supposed to be able to push the rod in and out by hand. would it be all right to drive it this way? would it possibly break loose when the boost hits it?? i need help fast!!!!!!
someone please!!!!

To test a wastegate you've got to hook it up to a compressor - one with a pressure regulator. Turn the regulator until it's closed - no pressure. Hook up the WG and very slowly increase the pressure on the regulator. The WG arm shouldn't move until it hits its cracking pressure(6 psi, 10 psi, whatever). As the pressure increases the WG arm should open more and more. Don't go too high over the cracking pressure - just go far enough so that you tell if it continues to open with increasing pressure(5 psi over or something like that).

iwould if there was someone around here that knew about turbos. i had everything worked out all they had to do was bolt the shit on and weld up the exhaust. i would hjave done it myself if i couldve done the exhaust. its just a stage one setup. they told me the wastegate was siezed. i was going to have to make it adjustable anyway, cant run but 5psi. the turbo is probabaly set around 10 or so. i already ordered me new wastegate last night, i was just wondering how i can safely drive until i get the new one?

Oh, to drive it around just remove the wastegate actuator. Without an actuator you won't see boost. Don't leave the broken actuator installed.
