you need to hook up the two wires.. one for the tach signal and one for the speed sensor....
speed sensor = white, or white with brown triangles tach sensor = yellow w/ white stripe

How accurate is it? And how exactly does it work? Is it sort of like at the track where your wheels trip off a laser (or in this case a sensor in the timer)?

hey man you got those two reversed...the speed sensor wire is the yellow one with white stripe and the tach signal wire is the white one.
