I want to put in the order for my gauges tonight. I am getting an air/fuel gauge and a boost gauge. I want the autometer ones that are white with the silver ring around them. Are all boost gauges mechanical? Are they easy to install? I was wondering how you get the wires down the side of the dash. Also I have a question on the EGT gauge. Do I really need one with a stage one turbo kit?

LAST EDITED ON 07-May-01 AT 05:20 PM (PST)

There are mechanical and electronic boost gages. I'm not sure if Autometer sells an electronic boost gage. I prefer an electronic one, but they cost more of course. I would still get an EGT with a stage one kit. You can still get into trouble with only 5 psi boost (if something goes wrong). I wouldn't feel safe without it. Also, what kind of A/F gage are you getting. If its a 10 segment blinky light one, save your money. They aren't worth much for tuning. The 30 segment ones are better, but not great. The digital numeric ones are much more useful. Heres a link: http://members.nbci.com/cbehnken/dvm.html

autometer doesnt make white faced gauges with silver bezels. the white faced gauges (phantom) have black bezels and the silver bezeled gauges (sport/pro-comp) have matching silver faces.

Don't get a the autometer probe. I dont know what the board feels about it but i have heard nothing but bad things about this from the 4g63 dudes. I got the greddy 60mm peak warning guage and it is worth every painstaking dollar. the guy had to literally rip the 150 + 100 for probe out of my hand but im glad because it has so many nice features. The main thing is the probe, make sure it isnt crap. Board?

The Ultralite is SUPPOSE to be silver face with silver bezel but of course its really white face with silver bezel. The autometer is a 20 segment meter so it reads at .05V so .085v, .090, .095, .1 which is somewhat useful (anything less would really be useless. with this at least you can tell if your safe at WOT). Its what I have. The mech boost gauge is easy to install but autmeter install parts suck. I got the Extreme MS boost gauge install kit so I could run some real vacuum line instead of the junk it comes with (pinch it and its no good. hard plastic). If you dont get the install kit you'll need to find a fitting to run real vacuum line.

(kick) - bitch! emoji Just kidding....

The Ultra-Lite LOOKS white, but they are silver... Its a common misconception... come on guys.. relax ... it's a minor detail...

Let's play around and quote Autometer:

"The silver dial was added to make this series easy to read under harsh racing"

You are correct. I got a air/fuel gauge and it is silver. It just always looked white in other peoples cars.

Yeah you can barely tell they're silver unless you already know its suppose to be silver or someone tells you to look at them closely but they're silver (barely). I guess they should make a titanium series that is more silver. Damn I also forgot the original question. Hope it was answered.
