Hoot: Corky is quite knowledgeable, and a personal friend of mine. I, too, have subscribed to his theories regarding intercooler design. However, I found that as I continued to design units closer to this standard, I achieved the desired minimal pressure drop, but the outlet temperatures began to rise. As I examined the situation, I found that the charge air was not spending enough time in the core, reducing the heat removal efficiency. Low pressure drop is good, but...this is an interCOOLER, after all! If we sacrifice too much cooling efficiency for pressure drop, the inherent functionality of the cooler will be overly compromised.
Thus the large horizontal core. The aspect to keep in mind here is that our internal cooling fin design has been selected to reduce pressure drop while affording maximim cooling efficiency, as our performance data show. We use a computer program to simulate core performance and experiment with different configurations. This data allows us to design cores that will have excellent cooling capacity while maintaining acceptable pressure drop.
Hoot, Shant, Jeff: We have yet to perform a trial installation on an Avenger. It should fit, but the installer will likely need to modify the piping and mounts. Pricing for this intercooler system should be about $999 to upgrade existing Stage II's, a bit more to convert a Stage I (a couple more pipes required).
Boostn: Yes, the site navigation is a bit odd right now, primarily because we have two sites: turbosystem.com for you guys, hrchahnracecraft.com for 4G63 guys.
