I highly doubt anything happened to the valves, but its always possible i suppose, wont know until its apart really. Sounds like on your 155 comp cylinder, you may have broke only the top piston ring land. You broke both on the #4 for sure. Thats what mine were like.

Might as well replace all timing belt parts while your at it, but they will be in great condition, most likely. Was all that replaced with the new block before? > >oh and what is this Howell replacement block I've been >hearing about? >thanx
Its a job getting down to the pistons, but its not that hard, just time consuming. Matt_95tgs and I tore apart my engine down to the pistons, with block still in the car, and put it all back together in about 14 hrs. Luckily he had a spare piston or two to get me rollin again. Good luck with it 
Once you get your pistons out, #4 may look like this.. OUCH!
