Well, I just put the HRC stage I on my avenger. There's a noticable difference. I really wanted boost so I started small. It does get up and go, make no mistake about that. Plus my car is about 2-300 lbs heavier than an eclipse. Not to mention it gets the engine used to the boost instead of just nailing it with 8psi that stage II would give you.

Just my .02

Stage 1 is what I had for about 5k miles. It was DEFINTELY worth it. I absolultely loved it. Boost is boost in my book. And boost is absoultey the shiznits.

Of course you get more power with stage 2, but the difference in stage 1 and n/a is a friggin worlds apart as opposed to the difference in stage 1 and 2.

LAST EDITED ON 16-Oct-01 AT 10:22 AM (PST)

Not worth it???? A stage 1 will put you around 180 whp from somewhere around 125-130whp stock. 50-55whp for $2000 is pretty damn good except for NOS but you get your 180hp all the time instead of when you press a button or flick a switch. Unless someone else can name another mod that gives you that much hp for a less amount of money ...

HRC claims: stage one is UP TO 200-225 crank HP (5-7psi).. thats a 60-85HP boost. and you WILL be faster than a GST/TSI

quite a bit faster than a FWD 4G63. i think from a standstill start, a stage one 420A would only have a slight edge on a GSX/TSIAWD. turbo is the biggest horsepower per dollar, period, including nitrous (nitrous is all good but it disqualifies itself because it will cost more than a turbo the longer you use it and its temporary). bill hahn had a comparison of the HP/Dollar of a turbo compared to nitrous and bolt ons a while back but i cant remember where i saw it. it may have been on his site. you may say you only want power temporarily...bullshit. ive got the turbo and i drive under boost ALL THE TIME. i would go insane if i had to press a button then let off after 10 seconds. once youve got it you will want it all the time. see all these people getting greedy with turbos and blowing up? why? more power...that same hunger wont blow up a NOS'd car, it will put a hole in your wallet from bottle refills. id only say nitrous is superior if youre using your car for racing only. (or if youre broke).

If i were to buy a new kit i'd get a stage 1, you can convert to stage II for a lot less than they charge for the extra's.
I wouldn't get my hopes up to high for gs-t/gsx, those cars are on a whole nother level. Anyone who races isn't going to keep one stock because horsepower comes so cheap its ridiculous, and even with the t25 they can get 250-270 hp, which is just about what the stock 420A limits you to.

Well I did the Staged upgrade path and it worx well for me, since I'm a poor ass student boy. Got the kit and you can really feel the difference. The power is overwhelming at first, if it's only 40 horsies there is a big difference. It'll even pull on higher gears. Problem with stage 1 is the lack of the intercooler, the engine will get really hot. I installed a huge oil cooler just to be on the safe side. If your gonna get the kit now I'd say definately go for it since it's also winter and you'll have less heating problems.

The biggest appeal to buying the Stage 1 for me is the fact that I didn't pay like 800 dolla more for just an intercooler. I went to the junkyard and found myself a starion intercooler for a reasonable price and bought some piping. Heh if you do you upgrades in stages though, you learn to appreciate the power you got and learn to use it to the full ability. On a warm day I can drive the car to the limit because I can cope with the power, but at night the car turns into a monster and it's a whole new ball game ^_^

Grrr it's gonna eat you up!
