#105130, "GS-T swap or buy one?"

I have a question for you guys. I have a friend who has a GS-T engine, transmission, and computer for $800. The engine itself has 1200 miles on it. Right now I have a 97 RS with 96k miles on it. If I do the swap, it will be next summer so I can save up for a crotch rocket while the car is being worked on. I know that the website recommends just buying a GS-T but I like to stand out and I know of no one who has done the swap where I live. I live in upper East Tennessee and the most decked out car in town would be a Honda Civic hatchback with a Sniper bodykit on it. There are two Eclipse's around that are fixed up. Right now I have the fastest one. I want it to be faster! I owe $5700 on the car. If I got a GS-T, I planned on selling it and taking out a loan for one. I want a GS-T Spyder so bad but insurance and payments are stopping me. Plus if I do the swap, I will have time to get all the little things for the swap, plus upgraded turbo and front mount intercooler. What would you guys recommend? I would really like to hear from people who have done the swap.

dude. you have a 420a. why in the hell you you want to put in an outdated all around shitty motor? If I was going to put a different motor in my car it would be the 2.4l turbo motor from the srt-4. It would be even more of a pain in the ass, but actually worth it. The 420a has just as much if not more potential then the 4g63 IMO.

Here is what you do. I saw this video where a guy took an old ass beater mitsu pickup and put the turbo 4g63 in it. Its a simple swap because THAT 20 YEAR OLD TRUCK HAS THE SAME FUCKING MOTOR. so having a turbo little pickup truck would be fun and it would be a sleeper for sure. If you want your car to be fast just turbo the 420a, you wont regret it.

Hey Dino!

You should put a revolving banner at the top of the forums with all the questions we've seen a hundred times going across it. When a user clicks it, it takes them to the search or TWSB (things we've seen before). It might save you some bandwidth over time. emoji

wow man you just dissed my engine so i will diss the 420A !!!!!!!!

if you think that all you have to do to make a 420a fast is to buy a stage 2 kit from hahn, well my friend you are wrong. a rebuild is ESSENTIAL if your gonna be out pushing it hard every night. by no means is the 4g63 a shity motor, even the 7 bolt is designed WAYYYY better than a 420a. try changing out a headstud on a 420a will ya?

actually the 420a has more potential cause the 4g63 already has a turbo and intercooler. as far as going all out on a 420a, a stroker kit is the way to go. BUT there are new 2.4 stroker kits out for the 4g63 too. I will say this, there is no way in heel any one can match bryndens 2.6

im not sayin the 420a is a horible motor, chrysler just should have designed it better, done more research on it

Also the 4g63 motor from the new evo does bolt right in smart ass!!!!!!!! :o

No it doesnt, the Evo 1-3 engines will bolt right in, but the 4-8 engines have the timing gears and timing belt on the opposite side of the car.

That would probably be Eric Plebani. He is known for dropping the 4g63 into many different cars, including that Mighty Max pick-up truck, and even a Porsche. Pretty cool stuff. He's also #57 on the "Fastest DSM Drag Times Page" with an 11.98 in his 90 Talon AWD.

There's a little clip about Eric and his 4g63 powered pick-up truck in the special features on one of the Tecademic's DVD's.

Actually, the newer Evo engines will bolt in. They won't, however, plug in. As for the 4G63, there are a lot of great things about that motor. It's virtues include a baffled oil pan, strong internals, and a mostly closed deck. The 420a, however, has the advantage of a bedplate design and fewer parts. The reduced parts count improves the servicability of the motor. As for the head stud comment, there is never really a need to replaqce a head stud, and the nut can be reached without pulling a cam. Just hafta go through the hassle once to remove the head bolts and put ARP head studs in instead.

anyways..enough of the gay arguing. back on topic. you can't swap a 4g63 turbo motor into a 420a engine bay very easily.. yes it is possible but realisticly it's a pain in the ass. You'd be better off saving all that money for the swap and putting a turbo kit on your RS. If you aren't comfortable with doing that then just sell your RS and buy a GST/GSX. Hope this answers your question.
