I finally got all of the fuel system components installed for my 8-injector setup. Its running good and leak free. I've had some time lately so this week I decided to go ahead and finish this thing up. First I'd like to thank Corbin for pioneering the 8-injector setup on our manifolds. Second I'd like to point out that the "size" of this system was inspired by an article by Steve Wells - http://www.stevetek.com/R-FuelSys.html -6AN all the way through, and -8AN to tie the rails together. I will eventually get the turbo on but I decided to use an 8-injector fuel system and I wanted to install the fuel system first because it was so involved.
I'm using an Aeromotive 1000-6 regulator and a high flow Russell fuel filter. I fabricated a SS bracket to mount them on the passenger side.

To get the fuel back and forth to the tank, I used -6AN aluminum lines. The line fittings are compression-fit AN adapters. You can see they go from the filter and fpr through the slot between the frame and suspention brackets - all the way to the back - right before the tank.


The tank outlet has a -6AN thread fitting on it. It's actually not a JIC fitting, but it has the same thread size as -6AN. So I used some teflon tape and tightened it down good. It works. The return is a different story. It's a puny little line and that just wouln't do. So I modified the tank lid by installing a -6AN 90deg bulkhead fitting. It turns out that the best place to install it is right underneath where the outlet line is - so i had to bend the outlet line out of the way for clearance. Seems to do the trick -6AN in and out. I left the old return inlet on there and just capped it off.



I know I've posted a bit about my manifold before, but I've changed ISPs and that thread doesn't bring up the pics anymore so I'll put a couple of pics here. I bought a spare manifold and did all of the fabrication myself - Drilled the injector bosses, made a bracket for the secondary rail, and welded -6AN and -8AN fittings to a couple of 95' fuel rails. The -6AN ports go on the fpr/filter side and the -8AN ports are used to tie the two rails together in seris.

I've got a fuel pressure gauge mounted directly on the fpr and I have an electric gauge installed in my gauge bezel. The pressure sender unit is installed right after the secondary rail(or right before the fpr). It's the gold thing in this picture.


Of course when I first started testing it I had a couple of leaks here and there. I had to epoxy the primary rail a couple of times. A couple of the compression fittings needed tightening. While I was wating for the epoxy on the rail to dry I decided to install a couple of switches. I had already rewired the pump when I installed it and my relay is behind the interior panel next to the pump....so thats where I installed the switches. Right behind the passenger's seat. I can reach them from the drivers seat. I like the location cause they're out of the way. The green one is the main Power switch - it enables/disables the pump. I wanted this for parking at bars, concerts, and whatnot. Cant steal the car without fuel pressure. The blue one is a Test switch - it turns on the pump. Even with no key in the ignition. Great for leak testing, changing fuel pressure, etc.

Other than that, the EIC is installed and running. I'm using the same 034 EFI unit that Corbin has in his writeup. It doesn't really do anything right now because I don't have a turbo yet. But at least it's installed. Right next to the ECU - in the same bracket.

I've got 30 lb'rs in the secondary rail. That brings the total flow to 550cc which should be good for ~350-400hp. Amazingly enough these secondary injectors are the bottleneck on the system right now. Not that I'm getting 400hp N/A...but 1)the lines, fpr, and filter are big enough to flow ~1000hp. 2)the 255lph high pressure in-tank pump can flow enough to support 48 lb'rs in the secondary rail, which would bring the total flow up to 740 cc/min - good for ~500-550hp Then the question comes up - Isn't this a little overkill Jim? Well, I wanted to build it so that I didn't have to worry about running the secondary rail dry. Think about it - the injectors are sucking from the top of the upsidedown rail - where the air is. Read that SteveTech link I mentioned ^^^ for more info on how inadequite our delivery system is. I guess the other thing is that I want to have a seriously big turbo at some point. Like, I've been thinking 20g for a while, but lately I've been thinking FP3065. Who knows what I'll be thinking when I actually get it. I'll settle for starting out with this 14b that I have for now.
Anyways. Like I said its running good. I had the pressure set a little low at first - 45 psig static pressure. The LTFT was hanging around 20-22 on my test drive so I raised the static pressure to 52 psig. Now the LTFT stays under 15. One other thing I noticed was that my idle is extremely stable now. Before it would vary from 700-800rpm when flipping between rich/lean cycles. Now it sits at 800rpm steady - no fluctuation at all. I'm happy with it. Now I can move on to the turbo.
