I know I mentioned this on Tuners somewhere recently, but I had always figured on a "simple," 3-plate design to avoid any welding. The idea being, one would use the lower half of the intake manifold as a sort of foundation for mounting things. Granted, having any kind of real plenum volume or even aftercooling this system would take some brain power, but a very basic get-this-thing-boosted-and-running system could be fashioned using a triple adapter plate deal - A flange for the blower, one for the intake manifold, and one in the middle which matches the other two together. Rather than weld, these could be rough cut with a mill and then possibly hand ground for the best match without CNC. I would use countersunk bolts and anaerobic to seal things together sans welding. Depending on the thickness of the plates, a modicum of "plenum volume" could be achieved.

Speaking to the general DSM communmity (not specific individuals in this thread), I think that it's more a question of motivation and willingness by members of the modern DSM community to do something which hasn't already been done repeatedly for their benefit. Unlike back in the day when DSM owners wracked their brains to figure out how to make something they wanted to work actually work on their cars, today's DSMer is all about cashing in on discoveries made almost 16 years ago, and talking about things as if they did anything other than what everyone else is doing and has been doing for a decade. Pfft.
With regards to ultimate power, turbo beats the blower. Period. With regards to efficiency, turbo beats the blower. Period. With regards to ease-of-installation, turbo still wins based on sheer trend alone.
With regards to cost, my research on the subject leads me to believe a basic, non-aftercooled supercharger system could likely be installed for between $700-$1000. A fuel system is still required, as are a number of other custom bits, but it's nothing I would consider too pricey. I've spotted the Eatons off the GM slugs from time to time going for less than $300. Bonus! You can source a template of the full dimensions of any Eaton blower online, which could be used to get started building the adapter plates while searching for that quality, used unit for your project.
Personally, I think a supercharger would be a lot of fun with an LSD on an autox car. The rear wheels would simply be along for the ride in a car like that. The supercharger would also be good for cool points, as it is unique in the DSM world.
So, anyway, since this thread is nearly done, maybe this reply can stimulate conversation beyond "Hey, look at this shit I found on Ebay that's been posted on every other DSM forum on the web" and into, "Fuck that Ebay shit. I'm going to pick up some templates and see what I can do about making some adapters," since those adapters are really all that stands between anyone who knows two cents about a DSM and actually installing a supercharger.
