Ok I know there has been alot of stuff about if it could be done but I just ran across this on ebay and thought I would ask what you all thought about it.

Well that is the same thing they said about the 2.4 swap, the turbo kit for the 420a and a lot of other things that are now very common stuff.

I do like the fact that you are one of the people that say to give it up. It is because of people like you that we do have the mods we do today. So keep up the good work.

Well if you all read this post you would see that I asked what you thought about the kit the person was trying to sell on eBay. If you took the time to click on the link you would also see that there is a pic of it on a 420a motor. I was just trying to find out if it was real or not. Plus for your info I was talking about modifications on cars.

To lild14 that replied MODS PLEASE LOCK THIS, please get real. This is a LEGIT question that I am asking and it is in the correct spot, if you don't like the question then don't click on it.

Back on topic do you think it is real or just some bull sh*t???

it has been done, search streetfire.net. there is a video of one. i think the idea is cool. turbo robs less power and creates more but not everyone wants to wait for boost. opinions are like assholes right? this is mine: it would be cool to s/c your 420a. i wouldn't but doesn't mean i'm against it. just be carefull who you deal with on egay!

First off....every single one of you are a bunch of idiots. For your own sake I am deleting all the pointless posts in this thread. Keep up the slamming of ideas and i am bring out the BAN CANNON.....much like a shot gun, it covers a lot surface area and you may find it hard to log in when hit!

To the original poster who ASKED A LEGITIMATE QUESTION. The S/C has been done by a member here (dont remember who it was, it was years ago). He posted about it and got flamed because of the idiots who dont understand what a S/C is supposed to do and how it operates.

It can be done but its a lot of work. Like you said, the 2.4L is a lot of work and thats why a few members who ran their mouth about making one have now gotten quiet and STFU.

The S/C idea will require a good deal of welding and the ability to make an adapter plate for our manifold. Yes the parts are available in junkyards now but the junkyards are still askign a lot of money for one so make sure you weigh that in. As for the kit on ebay, it look legitimate but ask yourself why the guy is selling it? A lot can go wrong with a fabricated kit. So i guess my point is Buyer beware and use a CC in case the seller is a scam artist.

Turning up the boost is a little more work than a turbo but the S/C doesnt create all the underhood heat either. Its a give and take situation.

Terry

I remember reading somewhere on Team-2g on about that guy, I believe he switched to SOHC when he did it though.

I dont feel as if I am idiot.

I stated the facts to him. There is a reason on why it has not been done, atleast by a few people, no tjust one.

It takes too much time, too much effort and too much money. If someone has the dough to do it, by all means do it.

Everyone on here knows how many supercharger questions are asked, and what happens to every thread? They all go down hill because in reality, its a sore subject.

He did ask a legit question, and for the most part, he got legit answers from everyone. End of story.

He is getting turbo'd with a kit from Hahn he says, so he will be much happier with that setup anyway's.

I will apologize to the OP for being a cunt to him, but its just crazy on how many times we see the S/C question and they all get flamed.

I'm sure it's going to be pretty tricky to get through a project like this without welding, but I felt the adapter plate would be the hardest part, Terry.

I know I mentioned this on Tuners somewhere recently, but I had always figured on a "simple," 3-plate design to avoid any welding. The idea being, one would use the lower half of the intake manifold as a sort of foundation for mounting things. Granted, having any kind of real plenum volume or even aftercooling this system would take some brain power, but a very basic get-this-thing-boosted-and-running system could be fashioned using a triple adapter plate deal - A flange for the blower, one for the intake manifold, and one in the middle which matches the other two together. Rather than weld, these could be rough cut with a mill and then possibly hand ground for the best match without CNC. I would use countersunk bolts and anaerobic to seal things together sans welding. Depending on the thickness of the plates, a modicum of "plenum volume" could be achieved.

Speaking to the general DSM communmity (not specific individuals in this thread), I think that it's more a question of motivation and willingness by members of the modern DSM community to do something which hasn't already been done repeatedly for their benefit. Unlike back in the day when DSM owners wracked their brains to figure out how to make something they wanted to work actually work on their cars, today's DSMer is all about cashing in on discoveries made almost 16 years ago, and talking about things as if they did anything other than what everyone else is doing and has been doing for a decade. Pfft.

With regards to ultimate power, turbo beats the blower. Period.
With regards to efficiency, turbo beats the blower. Period.
With regards to ease-of-installation, turbo still wins based on sheer trend alone.

With regards to cost, my research on the subject leads me to believe a basic, non-aftercooled supercharger system could likely be installed for between $700-$1000. A fuel system is still required, as are a number of other custom bits, but it's nothing I would consider too pricey. I've spotted the Eatons off the GM slugs from time to time going for less than $300. Bonus! You can source a template of the full dimensions of any Eaton blower online, which could be used to get started building the adapter plates while searching for that quality, used unit for your project.

Personally, I think a supercharger would be a lot of fun with an LSD on an autox car. The rear wheels would simply be along for the ride in a car like that. The supercharger would also be good for cool points, as it is unique in the DSM world.

So, anyway, since this thread is nearly done, maybe this reply can stimulate conversation beyond "Hey, look at this shit I found on Ebay that's been posted on every other DSM forum on the web" and into, "Fuck that Ebay shit. I'm going to pick up some templates and see what I can do about making some adapters," since those adapters are really all that stands between anyone who knows two cents about a DSM and actually installing a supercharger.

Happy New Year, bitches.

Thank You Terry. As you said it has been done but I was not sure if that kit on ebay would work or not and thought that I would post it incase someone else on here that new more about them or new someone that did could give a lil insight on it. I am talking to the seller of the ebay item to see who and where he got the pic of the S/C installed on the 420a motor he had on there.

And for the record I own a 1999 RS, 1998 GS and a 1996 GS w/99 front end. None of which are parts cars. I am just messing around with each one in a different way. I am not saying I have money coming out my as* cause I only paid around $3500 for all three cars.

I am not saying it wouldnt be a nice mod for the 2gnt or that it cannot be done because it has been done.

My point by saying what I did is that it does take a lot of time, a lot of money and a lot effort and that is exactly why you dont see guys doing it and we all know it. No one wants to spend the time nor money into doing this because they realize why do it when I can make a beast with a turbocharger on the 420a. I would love to see someone do it, but everyone who mentions it just asks questions and doesnt seem to me has the goal or motivation to actually step up and do it.

Until someone does it on here or elsewhere and proves what they did, everyone single person who posts a S/C question on here is going to get the exact same response from me.

I will be the first to admit, it would be badass to do, but unless you have some good resources and some really good knowledge about how a S/C works and designing one, any random kid of the street that thinks they are going to slam one on, has a rude fucking awakening.

I see no more point on dragging this out since that kit has been listed on and off of ebay now for about 8 months. Dont you think there is a reason that no one has bid on it or bought it? I do.

Im out.

I just found out that the seller was a well knowned member of my Avenger/Sebring club ASEC

his kit was pretty much complete
adding a 30lb injector, water injection and a SFMU would make serious power

There was a guy on T2G who *said* he did. Brian should remember that thread, as it was pretty infamous.

I talked to the guy via AIM a couple times, but he never provided pics or any vids to prove his claim.
