#92972, "SC61 running great!"

I just got everything running right, thanks to cesar, and it pulls hard as hell. I am running 12-14 psi now with my wideband reading around 10-11, so i am still playing with it. I am waiting to buy the AIC so i can install my 8-injector setup to run 25psi. Damn, the turbo feels good, but it is laggy, but it feels much better than my old super 16G. Starts to spool around 4500 and not sure when it hits full boost, i am to busy trying to control the car after that. Well, for my setup, i just have Howell Automotive's built short block, stock head, MP 60mm throttle body, South Bend Clutch, 02 neon tranny, FMIC, 42lb green top injectors,2.5 inch downpipe and exhaust(with test pipe), with the other little goodies(ex:wideband band o2 sensor, gauges). Just wanted to post an update on my car, sorrry for the long post.

You're going to need more than fuel control to boost 25 PSI with that turbo. A simple CD box w/ timing retard module should work fine.

Yeah, Cesar is helping me out with everything since he is boosting 26psi. I still have a few things to buy before i get that high, but hopefully soon. I am gonna try and boost 15-16 tonight with 100 octane gas.

Cool. Listen to the engine real carefully for pinging before you boost the hell out of it.

It's refreshing to see guys around here running turbos other than the HRC Super Turbo lineup.

I'm not running any timing control. I run 26psi with 93 and fuel additive. Always run a little richer if running w/o additive. My datalogger reads timing and stays between 13 and 15 degrees. Always goes a little lower at 4900 rpm, around 13 degrees. It goes back to 15 after 5000 rpm. No matter how many runs I make at the track, always watching the EGT, AFR and datalogger info. Also, I do a compression check everytime after the track and get 180psi all across.

Cool. But 13* advance is getting down there. Are you sure the ECU isn't detecting some knock and pulling back timing? I've never tuned a 2GNT boosting over 21-22 PSI on any turbo, that I didn't have to pull timing out of due to knock.

I always logged about 17-18* at WOT with no knock on the stock ECU. However, I have noticed different timing number with different year ECUs.

Yeah, I maybe be getting a little knocking, although I don't here anything it might be there. Like an old post, not all knocks are audibles. This is why I keep checking the status of the engine. It is like you say, every engine run with slightly diferent settings. Just watch for any condition that may damage your engine. So far, few years since I rebuilt the block, I have had good results with my settings. Now, if I had a standalone then I could do fine tunning and timing control. All depends on how deep is your pocket. Some day I will upgrade to MS, for now 8-injector will do. This year will try to run 11's. Need to upgrade axles and get ARP head studs or bolts. Will try 28 to 30psi.

Hey Freddy, I'm happy for you. We have to meet soon.

nice setup man. Have always loved that style hood.

Just one question, since i was getting pretty much ready to throw my kit on. You dont have any problems with the wastegate being open like that and blowing right on the upper radiator hose and causing damage. I've seen it cause it to swell up w/o a dump tube or some type of protective sleeve around the radiator hose.

No problems running it open, it hasnt damaged anything and the radiator hose is still fine. I may put a dump tube on later, but i am buying the new turbonetics evolution wastegate on first.

My friend says the same thing. But, i guess i will learn the hard way if it does, haha. I like it that way and i have had all my turbos(T3, super 16g, and SC61) that way and nothing yet.

should at least put on a durable aluminum net on it. You get to see the turbine and don't have to worry about flying debris entering.

Yeah, i had a few races last night, i will post them in the racing section. It was a fun night, it may take some time to get used to the lag, but when it spooled, it felt nice.

Nice setup...as for the tuning, just be carful running higher boost on pump gas, and esp without any timing control. Be VERY cautious when retarding timing with pump gas, because that will drive up your EGT's significantly. One or two degrees is fine, but no more than that IMO. If you have to pull more than that, you need more fuel octane, lower boost, or colder air charge. With my experience with a S16g, 93 octane, and 8.8:1 compression ratio pistons, 15 psi is just about the max on 93 octane and PROPER amount of timing(roughly around 15-17 degrees, NO retard). Its my opinion that running any timing under 15-17 degrees is not the best thing to do, for both power and and safety. EGT's get really hot under 15 degrees. Its ALWAYS best to run more octane than retarding timing. You make power that way..with more octane you can run more timing, more boost, and that makes power!

I ran last night on 93, i like to run 100 octane but i didnt feel like driving out of my way to get 100 octane. I usually run 100 octane to be safe like you said when boosting higher than 14psi. I ran the super 16G at 17psi on 93 octane and it ran great, with no severe problems with EGT's. I am not pulling any timing, i think i am just gonna have to leave the timing like it is b/c i dont have any timing control. I agree with with running higher octane then retarding the timing. Thanks for your opinion, i appreciate suggestions and help from other 2gnt members.

I run 93 and 94 all the time with my SC61. Ive never ran anything higher and Im putting out 18psi with no probs. I run the MS but with no timing.

What are your trims? Mines .63 76

Also, Im wondering why your getting more lag than me. I start boosting around 3500-3800, depending on load and I hit full boost almost instantly. Defintley by 4500.

I know the compressort side is .60 A/R, i left the car at home so i have to check the exaust side tomorrow. I probably start at around 3800, but like you said depending on load. I get full boost around 4500, it hits so fast and i havent looked at exactly when full boost hits. I say 4000rpm because that is when i start to feel it. I am having troubles with my wastegate, so when i get a new one i think everything will be fixed, the wastegate has a leak, it is messed up.

Do what you want it's your money and im guessing you are going to leave it without a filter but like someone said at least put aluminum mesh over it or something. is "looking cool" really worth possibly ruining that nice new turbo?

For the love of god. At least run a filter for the sake of your engines health. Even very small dirt/dust particles are eventually going to take there toll of the turbo and the engine. I think if you clocked your turbo and fixe that first blue coupler you could rework you IC piping and probably spool a little faster.

Well, since i am not a redneck that goes mudd bogging in my eclipse, i think i am fine. I have driven like that for years, no problems, i drive an 1hr away, oh and that is on I-95, wow. I know you guys are trying to help, but i have already posted about it.I dont see why some of you are still crying over it. No need to use names, we dont need little kids on here. At least i am trying to go somewhere with the car, then just a simple T3 or super 16G turbo with forged internals and run 15psi for the rest of your lives. As for the sitting on the highway, that would be an easy fix, just buy another one, i wouldnt look stupid, only immature people like you would laugh. I respect you guys suggestions and help, so lets just keep it that way and let the "FILTER ON TURBO" issue go away.
