I have not painted mine, but I would assume that it is safe to say that you need to prep it first! The prep is 99% of a quality paint job. Sand it down with a 1200 grit wet sand paper. Use a bucket of water with some liquid dish soap in it as it will clean the plasit while you sand it. Once it is fully sanded (should be hazed) rinse with clean water and then dry it. After it is dry wipe the whole thing down with wax remover (Make sure it is safe for plastics) and then prime and paint the tail piece!

Good luck!

...and that is how we know the Earth is banana-shaped!

You are right glen...I have painted mine and it came out great. I didnt prime mine though. I put on three seperate layers of paint though. Allowing about 15 minutes of drying time in between coats. I also put two layers of clear coat on. It is easy to do. And after a couple days yuo can wax the piece and then it looks like new!!
