Yep. The MAFT translates the GM signal that comes from the GM MAF to use with our stock wiring.
Also, you can tune with the newest version of the MAFT. Ver. 2.01 is much more adjustable in terms of settings for injector sizes, but I would recommend getting an AFC to run with it as well.

yeah, MAFT is a translator allowing the GM MAF to be interpreted by our ECU. Back to the original question, Just get a SAFC. Most people don't really need a MAF/T setup till you can max out a 2G MAS. Plus, if you get bigger injectors or whatever, you can just make a few adjustments by pushing a few buttons on the SAFC.
