10 years. Seems like half that or less since this has been my homepage, even though it has been since I joined in 1999. I remember the Inside the Web days, although I was a lurker then. From a technical standpoint, this is where I (we?) learned about modding a car with an ecu. Being much older than most everyone here, digging into a car without a carb and a distributor was a little daunting. All the highs and lows of building that beast were shared here, as we all pushed the envelope and learned from each other and our mistakes. We've had our share of outrageous and innovative members, shady vendors, and pioneers. There are more stories from the gatherings and the shootout than there are days in a year, impossible to single out one or two. More importantly, we have the community.
The single thing that brings me back here every day, 5 years after selling my cherished 2gnt are the people. A few casual internet acquaintances have grown into lifelong friendships. I can't explain the bond, but it is strong bond - any of us would drop everything to help the other out. I can't help but feel a little fatherly, watching some of you mature, get married, and start families. Ten years later, this is the most important place in my life, outside of my own flesh and blood. A place where we can catch up, or take a diversion from the daily grind.
So my thanks go out to Juan for beginning this simple website so we could mod our cars, and to all the members which have made this truly a community.
