I have 205's on my stock 14's but I wouldn't think you could go much wider than that.

You can put a BF Goodrich drag radial comp TA 215/60/14 on it. You can also put a Nitto 555R drag radial 205/55/14. The BF tires would be less than inch shorter and the nitto tires would be 2 inches shorter. I think if you dropped the BF tires down to 20 psi, they would hook really well. You could even drive to and from the track(with normal pressure).

If your car is going to stay normally aspirated, the nitto tires might be just what you need. If you drop the pressure in them real low, your car would be nearly 1.5 inches lower in the front. If your car is dropped fairly low, this might be a concern. You would also have to change wheels at the track for sure.

BTW: when I first got my car in 97, I drove on firestone firehawk SS10 tires for 2 years. The size was 215/60R14. They felt like I was skating on ice at 80+ mph, but they were sure as hell smooth riding.
This is definately the widest tire that will safely fit on the 5.5 wheel.

Sounds good to me, I was looking at G Force T/A Drag radial in 215/60R-14. Glad to hear it will fit.

Just to jump on someone elses post, whats the largest tire for 17 by 8 in rims. Tirerack recommends 215, but I figured 235 would fit. Take into consideration I want to do auto-x so having a soft tire wall is not what I want.

our stock 14s are 5.5 inches wide, 215s should fit, barely

and, a 235 will fit nicely on a 17 by 8 rim

Mike, looking at drag slicks, are we???

here's a hint, look into hoosiers, they're expensive and you won't get as many uses out of them, but do you want to win or not? emoji

Not slicks Todd, Drag Radials. I want a long life out of them... since I don't go to thet track as often as I would like, Drag radials should last forever. The 1955s on my 14's just don't give me any traction from memory. So I want something with a smaller aspect ratio and a stickier compound, just not ready for a slick yet.

Una salus victus.
