#10798, "1st Gen GST same rear suspension?"

Does the 1st gen GST have the same rear suspension at the 2g RS, GS, and GST?

*Edit* It looks the same...but the spring perches look a lot bigger.

No, they are not the same. You cannot use 1G springs or struts on the 2G or vice versa.

Nope they are totally different, nor would you want to use anything at all from a 1st generation FWD DSM's rear suspension. It is a VERY old design. A monkey could have designed the rear FWD 1st gen suspension!

The FWD 1st gens use a solid axle suspension setup with a panhard arm to locate the axle (along with two control arms or trailing arms, whatever you want to call them). Our rear multi-link setup is literally DECADES more advanced than a panhard arm setup. Our whole suspension setup is far more advanced than a FWD 1st gen. Multilink setup at all wheels vs. front macpherson struts with a solid rear axle, no contest 2nd gens are FAR better.

If you just care about keeping the rear wheels somewhat in line while going from point A to B and you need a simple easy to design and dirt cheap suspension setup, you use a panhard arm solid axle setup (just look under any chrysler K car and lots of other early 90s and earlier american made FWD junk, you'll see the exact same setup).
