My engine just died on my wife. I have a 97' RS with 144,200+. She basically told me it's dyin' on her. I get there and restarted it and it was idleing fine. I popped the hood and looked for anythin' suspect. Rough idle, sounds/noises, but I couldn't tell of anythin', then again, theres heavy traffic around me so I can't depend on the hearing factor. I thought it could be either the ignition (spark wires, plugs), I changed the plugs with new NGK's and I just (1-2 weeks ago) purchased new MSD wires. The MSD coil is rather new with only a good 5k/6k miles of use put on it. I also thought about the Fuel delivery, looked for leaks around the rail/injectors, but that's good, haven't checked the fuel pump or weither it goes on with just the ignition on (knowin' my fortune, that's not goin' to be it either). I quickly felt it wasn't the ignition/fuel because it can idle fine. As soon as I put it in Reverse/Drive it'll begin to hesitate and die slowly, I tap on the accelerator a few times and it comes back sometimes. The acc. pedal feels loose when I do this....I've basically been turnin' the car off in N (while on the road drivin') then restartin' it, puttin' it on Drive and doin' this repeatedly. I just came from Advance Auto Parts and had a diagnoises, EGR was the only code that popped, but I know that's because I removed the entire system and blocked it off. I also installed a resistor for it, but I can safely assume my prob. has Nothin' to do with the EGR. So the only other thing that comes to mind is Misfire or somethin' def. wrong with my cylinder(s).
Any help or opinions will be appreciated greatly, this is my only car and of course, I need to work...
Peace, Jem
