#89154, "best replacement for 420a"

I just found out my engine is shot. I have a 99 gs and don't want to go back with the stock 420a. Any suggestions on a bolt in engine or what would be the best to do, rebuild with a high performance kit or go J-spec

ha, j-spec.... you made me laugh. Really there isn't anything to "swap". You can' build your 420a to your hearts content or swap in a 2.4 block (unless you really know your shit, don't think you do, no offense) but the 2.4 swap is no easy bolt in deal. Go to a junkyard or find a rear ended 420a eclipse and use the engine. You have the largest resource you can find on the web for the N/T eclipse.. I suggest you use it! There are 10,000's of posts that you can read and learn from on how to build your engine to do whatever YOU want. Start with a click on the search button.

That's tight. It's like 1:63.1 of my engine (I wish). I wish I had skills like that. I'd have the meanest go-cart on the street, and a mini Boss Hoss.

WOW one post and you already made yourself look bad.... LOL @ J-Spec

options are in order of difficulty:

1-Build and boost 420a
2-2.4 Swap
3-Speak to the guys @ RedefinedRides.com about their 4g63 AWD swap.

fuck that I say go Jspec. Call up one of them importers and ask for a JDM engine. I believe an SR20DETT engine fits, I've seen it done.

Lol. I think your best bet is just to get a mechanic to swap in a new / used 420a, and be done with it. Search around a study up on the possible build ups, then choose your path.

What a waste of money, and probably runs low 12's, high 11's.

You're getting flamed because you posted without reading or searching. You stepped into the fire without a fire suit and wonder why you got burned.

The 95-99 GS/RS is basically made by chrysler, it has a dodge neon motor in it with a different head. The chrysler 2.4l will bolt up, but it requires fabrications and rewiring.

You don't like their smart ass remarks, but I bet you learned to search before asking an ignorant question again, didn't you?

Dude don't listen to these pricks GO J-spec, you won't regret it a bit bro, J-spec all the way... 4 life baby...
Or you could live your name and put a supra motor in it....
The guy's above are correct, there is no smart swap, so you should build your 420a..

Personally, I say go JDM. Sure it's not as fast as a J-spec engine, but it's smog legal.

i dont wanna ruin everyones fun here, but we all must remember that at some point, we knew as little as him (how many of us thought we could just buy a nt, and then swap in a turbo from a 4g63)
the only thing is how many knew to search before they asked a question they thought was legit??

so i say before we go scaring away newcomers, just answer their question as simple as possible, tell them they should use the search, and be on their way.

that is all.

YOU CAN SWAP IN A "4G63 TURBO". It's been done. Look through the archives. However I am more forgiving at someone who ask if we can swap a 4g engine in there rather than someone who came in here asking about a JDM/Jspec engine. Only tells me one thing. You bought a 420a eclipse for all the wrong reasons. Use search Supraeclipse. Just think of this as a fraternity hazing. Take your licks and move on. Afterall, it's just a grain of salt. You'll find a wealth of information from searching. I hardly ever post a problem about my car because it would already be fixed from using the search button. You will learn a lot from this sight. You learn a lot more when people point out your flaws right?

You bought a 420a eclipse for all the wrong reasons. Use search Supraeclipse. Just think of this as a fraternity hazing. Take your licks and move on. Afterall, it's just a grain of salt. You'll find a wealth of information from searching. I hardly ever post a problem about my car because it would already be fixed from using the search button. You will learn a lot from this sight. You learn a lot more when people point out your flaws right?

I agree completely, i think we all(or atleast i know i did) got flamed and lectured like this at some point when we were BANME!s. just like he said, its like a fraternaty. take it like a man and move on. you've learned the search is key, and that will most likely prevent anything like this from happening again(unless you get really excited about something and spontaniously post about it... uuhh who's ever done that?? emoji )

I think that somebody should make a section where we put questions like this. Maybe it could be called "Things we've seen before," and it could live at the top of the forum.

Just a thought...

I don't know if this is possible with programing or not ... but maybe if when you try to make your first post you get re-directed to the "Things we've seen Before" or something like that?? I'm sure Admin thought of something like before and maybe it's not possible and that's why it doesn't exist?? I agree with above ^^^^, this should be locked at this point.

Ok Guys relax i will translate for our "challenged" newb

So what this guy is saying is that he spend 10,000 in his camaro, got a couple tickets, couldnt afford to drive it becasue of gas prices, insurance, and he is a broke ass. His parents made him sell the car to some 16 yr old that wrapped it around a tree because he thought it was a good winter car and to top it off his parents want their 10,000 he put in the car back. He now has to fix up a 4 cylinder because the insurance is too high on a kamaro and he is getting kicked out in a month.

Nothing against camaro's, they serve as a good car for all the dumb fucks who think they "know how to box" to work on.

Eh he should save some money for the weak rear end GM put in the f-bodies........

Terry
