#81266, "Lash Adjusters"

I took my head apart for a good cleaning and to replace the valvestem seals.

This neighbor kid comes by and wants to help me... so I let him. I had my lash adjusters in 2 piles, one or intake and another for exhuast.

I point to a small tub of gasoline and ask him if he would clean those for me in the gas. He says sure.

Well, next thing I know, he mixes up all the lash adjusters and puts them all in the tub at once. emoji

My question is... am I fucked? Or can I put them anywhere? I know my Haynes Manual says to make sure and label them to put them back in the original position. But so much for that idea.

All of the lifters and rockers are the same. Intake, exhaust, there is no difference.

Yeap. Just make sure you bleed them before you reinstall them... put them in a vice and compress them to blewed them. You're trying to get as much of the oil out of them as you can.

So, when I compress them... oil comes out of the little hole on the side?

Then after I "squeeze" the oil out, what do I do? Soak it in oil or what?

Sorry for asking these dumb questions... but I'm sitting at work and I left the manual at home. This is my first rebuild. emoji

-Thanks.

Well, in theory, the lifters could be overpumped for the camshaft that is being installed. If the lifters are pumped, and the cam has a lot of lift, then it could, in theory anyways, crash the valves. Nastyness. Just avoid the risk and bleed them down.

They should be compressable with your fingers. Think spoungy. They're not easy to compress, but they shouldn't feel solid after you've bled them down.

To bleed them, yes, you have to put them in a vice. I thought you were asking about after they had been bled.

You probably should. I mean, I haven't heard of 420a's crashing valves because of over-pumped lifters, but there is no reason why it couldn't happen. In the future, I would bleed them every time I pulled the lifters.

I got my lifters and rockers in gasoline now...

Since I'm doing a complete rebuild, what motor oil do you recomend using? 10w-30?
