#80010, "Shopping for cat-back, is this a good deal?"

A local shop will bend me 2.25 pipe and put on a Magnaflow (12615) for 205.00? Good price or should I keep shopping.

The only drawback is they crush bend. Can someone please tell me if I will see a difference between crushed and mandrel, beside a 10th of a second in the quarter? Even one says that mandrel is way better but it doesn't seem to make that much difference to me unless you are trying to squeeze that last drop of power for a timed event.

I don't think the angle exhaust will work with my rear end. I also think 2.5 will kill my low end. Thanks though.

imho, just change the muffler since you are paying basically stock piping (and worse exhaust system); crush bent is a waste. Just change the muffler and save your self a 100.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

If they use a crush bender get them to make you 2.5 piping. It'll be about the same flow a 2.25 mandrel bent and it won't kill your bottom end.

Look... you already have a fucking exhaust that flows like a 2.25" mandrel. It's called factory piping. The GS-T muffler on the stock piping is more then enough for whatever you want to do with it, short of a crazy bastard-style all motor setup (Brian) or a turbocharged setup.

I wish people would fucking quit trying to reinvent the goddamned wheel. Another thing, if you ask whether or not the GS-T muffler fits, you didn't search. And if you don't search, I will have Gil fuck you through your shorts until you die of rectal bleeding. K?

Stock is mandrel, with a 2.25" diameter. Most of the world measures pipe diameter by OD, not ID. Stock is more then 2" ID-wise, though, since the OD is 2.25", and the walls are not 1/8" thick. Until you SERIOUSLY increase your volumetric efficiency, you have no need for a larger pipe.

^^^^^^ he is correct....you guys need to measure your pipes before you argue. Factory pipe is 2.25 od which is the same gauge piep a muffler shop will use.

Holy goat fucking ass-monkey.

Crush bent it the crap that actually folds against itself. The stock pipe is press bent and is at least smooth even though it ovals in the bends.

I'd rather keep press bent 2.25" stock piping than put on a 2.5" crush bent exhaust any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I wouldn't put crush bend piping on a lawn mower, let alone my car.

Stay the hell away from crush bent pipe, it's crap.

I don't remember saying that I accepted or denied any opinion, from now on I will try and include you in all my decision making so you don't get fussy. I also think that I would like to have more than a couple of opinions before I run off and do anything. Both suggestions were good, the pictures of silvereclipse30's pipe looks like it angles out to the drivers side, he says it doesn't but it looked that way in the pictures. jsupetran also gave me a good idea except that I may have holes in my exhaust from rust. The GS-T exhaust is another option I considered. Yes, I know it fits thanks Ducking Fumbass for that jackass comment. I don't think dual tips will look good with the rear bumper I have. Finally your response of "Double" what is that in relation to? Are you saying they are charging me double what I should pay or are you seconding someone else opinion?

Concerning 2.25 vs 2.5, the person who will be doing the exhaust has 20+ years experience and he felt that crush bending really doesn't make a huge difference and that 2.5 could kill my low end. So I am weighing that against first hand experience with the 420a.

Why don't you take that bad attitude to tOOners or dsmt41k.

I know it has been covered and I know that everyone says mandrel is better. I also understand the science behind what makes it better. My question is how much better. Is it the difference of 1/100th of a sec in the quarter? A full second? No one can give real world terms only scientific data. I was also asking about a specific price for the work.

Anyways, I pm'ed silvereclipse30 to get some pictures of his setup. If you read this silvereclipse30, I also want to know if it goes over or under the rear crossmember?

I didn't know that there would be much of a difference between mandrel and crush bends until I saw first hand how important it was with my friend's wrx.
He had a custom cat back put in with larger than stock piping (crush) and free flow muffler. He put in an aftermarket boost controller and the motor started knocking after raising the boost by 1psi.
He then changed to a mandrel bent aftermarket cat-back and could turn up the boost 3psi without any problems.

Now, I know that his is a turbo'd car and we probably wouldn't run into that problem n/a, but it shows that there is a difference with the bends.
