sounds to me like the coolant temp sensor is starting to go, Id replace that only and see if it all goes away, well maybe not hte EGR problem, also look at the wiring going around the EGR tube to make sure its not burned, happens alot

Coolant temp sensor is located right under the radiator cap. On the front of the water neck there. One of the two sensors there is for the gauge in the instruments, the other for the ECU to read coolant temp (which is a parameter used to determine fuel trims - which could explain your kinky idle). They run under $30 from Autozone.
