#67995, "Almost stalling"

I was sitting at a stop light and all of a sudden my car almost stalled on me. It did it several times there after. What can it be?

you'd more than likely get a CEL if it was for these. cam and crank control spark timing and fuel control, they either work...or they dont. and if they dont, good luck starting your car.

i'd pull out the IAC motor and clean it up with some engine cleaner or WD40 or something, probly fix her right up emoji

Paul, I'll be getting together with JOhn tomorrow AM around 10 or so. He's got some shit to fix up (that chunk of fire hydrant he hit last month jacked his turbo up enough to snap all the studs in his manifold). Why don't you roll up and I can help take off the IAC and clean it while you help John do the turbo thing?

I pulled the IAC motor and cleaned it. I even cleaned the whole throttle body while it was out and it's still doing it. Could the IAC motor just be bad and i need a new one?

are you getting no CEL codes? id check/replace the plugs/wires if you havent already. check for wires shorting on your EGR tube. your IAC or Throttle Position Sensor either one could be bad and causing this as well. sucks when it happens without a CEL, cause then there are a TON of things that can cause a rough idle.

blah i'm having the same problem... car stalls every so often. sometimes when the cars moving too. it's kinda interesting to restart the car while it's cruising down the highway. no codes either for me... i already have aftermarket plugs, wires, and coilpack so i don't think it's that... ran some injector cleaner and that didn't help either. guess i'll try check the IAC? any other suggestions?

oh yea when my car dies all the lights in the cluster go out too... CEL included. my CEL's always on but it's for stupid unrelated stuff. is that normal for all the cluster lights to go out when it stalls?

haha sry don't mean to thread-jack but it sounds like the same problem emoji

You know, come to think of it, if the car want to die when driving, it could very well be frayed wires in the harness. My parent's Neon would just die if you took a right hander under power. The Harness across the back of the block had rested against the block too long and worn some wires through for the Crank Position Sensor. When you coasted around the rights, it would do okay, but when you gave ti part throttle, the wires would contact the block and short out, causing a stall.

Paul, I remember during your rebuild there was some sensor I saw that had a a nasty spot of fraying going on. I'm not sure what it was, but I was over there by the battery when I saw it, so you might double check that too.

I can't figure out what it is. Can it be the TPS? The car died on me twice on the way to work this morning. It died as i was slowing down to make a stop and right before i stopped, it stalled.

Do a couple of things to just make sure it isn't this. Take the spark plug wires out, and make sure that you aren't getting oil down inside the holes, which would kill your spark. Second, make sure that there isn't a air leak by listening to the throttle body while it is at idle. Then last, are your valve cover breathers open, or did you put on valve cover breathers. I had all of these things happen at different times. The valve cover breathers filled up with oil, and killed my engine some how. As soon as I cleaned them, it drove fine. I mounted them in a upward position to keep it from happening again. I guess they filled up with oil, and the engine pressure was building up, and the computer didn't like it.

I found one of my vacuum lines that was connected to that black box at the back of the block to the intake manifold to be broken in half. It was bearly hanging together. I hope that's what it is after i replace it tonight. I hope it's not the ecu, don't wanna have to pay for that.
