Looking at prices you see that just the springs are ~100.00 but for both retainers and springs your looking at ~250.00. Meaning that the 16 retainers are 150.00 by themselves. I know why they are that pricey (titanium) but my question is do you think you can just run the Crane springs w/o the retainers (use stock ones) and live a happy life or are they a must for survival?

i have read that you can do this without issue. our retainers are supposed to be pretty stong. i believe HRC uses stock retainers on thier cars buthave crane springs.

hrc has no head work.
i wouldn't recommend running springs without the retainers for them.. furthermore.. why half ass it.. if you are going to do, do it right.

i did both at the same time since i was doing some headwork. Also you save on some weight relating to the valvetrain etc... Michael 99gs HRC Stage IV 8-Injector Setup 2GNT Member #32

the cranes will work with the stock retainers..
neon guys been doing this for ages...
there is nothing wrong with our retainers they stay intact up to around 10krpms
the springs on the other hand dont hold up very well to higher rev's
ive seen a couple 2-3 incidents where cranes just up and broke i have not seen any crowers do this..

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.
If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good. If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast. If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

Yup, stock retainers are just fine. The only thing that you might want those ti retainers for would be as a weight reduction. The lighter the valvetrain, the higher it will be capable of reving, but you arent gonna ever go over 10000 rpm anyway.
