I was just reading on Car and Driver's Magazine, about how Howell removed the counterweight/balance and shaft in their Neon. Because the way I see it, the engine will be unbalanced, and lead to premature crankshaft breakage.
I was wondering, how did they balance this? How much horsepower is freed from this?
Doing this, will I be able to drive this daily (not caring about the sound or noise it will make now)?
Will this lead to premature crankshaft breakage?
What are some positive and negative effects of this?
Here is a picture of what I mean. The balance point is symbolized where both of the lines cross. Note I am estimating the balance point the right and it may or may not be exagerated.
EDIT: I know that the 2.0L 420A doesn't have balance shafts, I was just wondering how they accomplished it. (I read it in the archives)
AND.. Does anyone have pictures of before and after balance shaft removal pictures?

Yup, 4 bolts to remove, and an oiling hole to plug. That's it. Shouldn't make much of a difference, as it only eliminates secondary vibrations, not the vibrations that kill bearings. Just shakes a bit more, but I plan on using solid mounts in at least 2 locations and prothanes everywhere else. -=B-=

i chopped my BS( i like to call it Bullshit Box =)
took it out filled oil hole and thins are gonna be peachy my hole bottom end is balanced too...
just got my new eagles to repelce the crappy bent t2 rods...
