Just curious if you folks who are boosted (or even non-bosted) keep getting the damn intake cam seal leaking! F'kin anoying if you tell me....specially to fix it.

Are you sure you're not damaging it during installation?

I've done a lot of head gasket swaps...and i always replace 'em.

Service manual instructs to install the cams and all, torque 'em down. THEN install the cam seals without binding any one side i.e. install it evenly.

Here's my question....i have installed it with the spring facing IN and OUT and both have caused me problems. What have you guys done?

Also how far in do you install your cam seals? just flush to the side of the cyl head? or all the way in?

spring in, all the way. i think part of it is the quality of the seal. i found out cheap seals usually don't hold for long.

Its important to keep the seal with the spring side in,and that the inner lip of the seal is not turned in, or binding with the cam journal. The seal needs to be in at least an 1/8" from the metal edge of the head. The seals are actually pretty good seals (OEM), and shouldnt leak for thousands, and thousands of miles, if installed properly.

I don't hink mine are... I'll find out in the next couple of days, I have installed a few others and not had a problem wth them (that I was told about). Spring in, I actually don't follow install instructions. I install cam seal around cam and then slide cams into place, put the cap on and torque down, then get a little screwdriver and tap on the seal from the outside to ensure it's seated properly.
