#43594, "Those who have 95 and 96 MT and want a good ECU upgrade....."

Well.......Had a hunch and guess what!
Went to a local junkyard that a friend of the family ownz. They had a 420a 2.4 DOHC Sebring/breeze/cirrus motor, Trans and ECU, Trans was a 5speed, well came out of a 97, but i looked at the ecu and saw it was a 60 pin, now i am not sure for other year NT DSMS but i know 95 and 96 ECU have the 60 pin while the 97 and up has 68, well to make this short, got the ecu for free, so i figured what the hell try it out, I tried it out and HOLY SHIT! My car had some Low end power and some Top end power to match it, since i work for Satan, talking to a the master tech he told me since its a 2.4, the ecu probobly advances the timing few degrees, and dumps more fuel in. AND ITS A TRAIGHT HOOK UP, No modding needed, well anyway, i went back up there and got 2 more MT ecus and 1 AUTO ECU so if u got 95 and 96 and u fit the reqiurements, IM me and ill hook ya up dirt cheap,(cost of gas to go there and get the others)

Boostless and loving it!
Way to many mods to list!

i would like to report That the redline is at 7200 still for MT and 7000 for the auto, fuel cut however is rated at 8600 belive it or not, and also, from what ive read, the MT ECU's are very very hard to come by.

Hey man that is a great idea, but needs to be further tested?

I was under the impression that the Eclipse 420a PCM/ECUs where like this:
-1995- Totally different due to OBDI
-1996- First use of OBDII
-1997-Revides from 1996 model
-1998-9- The same little revisions from 97 model

Now the 95 is way different than the rest including pin count. I also though that all OBDII cars had the same pin count, but the 96 ECU had "internal differences". And I was told the Eclipse ECU doesn't advance timing at all or just a little bit. And I think part numbers on Avenger\Eclipse ECUs are the same.

So which ECU did you get? And I know sometimes I do things to me car expecting a gain, therefore i feel a gain, but actually there really isnt, kinda my brain tricking me into thinking there is one.

So 2.4 Chrysler ECU's work eh?

That's some pretty crazy shit. Neat stuff to know. I guess their ecu setup is more closely related to out platforms than the neons. I've heard the neon ecu's do not work. Although, I'd still like to have someone try.

I wasn't trying to say that you are wrong. Just giving an example of how my mind tricks me sometimes. I want one too, but it is hard to find a 5spd 2.4 ECU. What cars does the 2.4liter 420a 5spd come in?

Well, the 2.4 ECU drives injectors that are the same size. The 2.4 injectors are the same as the 2.0 injectors, and the FPR is the same. Therefore, the ECU is running the engine rich. Now, I bet if you log your STFT and LTFT, you will notice that it is trying to lean things out a bit (~22%). This may cause it to think that it is under far less load then it really is, which would give a nice boost in timing. The boost in timing alone could make a noticable difference.

Well I did a little research today and NO 1st gen JA 2.4 cars had a 5 speed from the factory. I have asked people in the neon community and they have confirmed this. If you go to www.car-parts.com and search for the 5spd ECU you will see that there inst one.

Unless those ECUs came from 2gen JA cars or PT Cruisers, which are all much newer than 1996. So will putting a AT 2.4 ECU on a 2.0 MT hurt performance (lower redline). The 5spd on the 95-96 Breeze/Cirrus/Sebring all belong to the 2.0 420a and their heads are turned a full 180 degrees around from ours. The 2.4liter never came with a head that is in the same dirrection as our cars.

Sidenote: 420A is the mistu desingation for the chrysler D4RE engine.

If this will indeed hook up to a 96 MT, I want one. How much total are we looking at for one?

PCM not ECU. powertrain control module.

does anyone know about the mopar performance PCM?????

heres all the PCM #s for peeps who row their own. howell has them, as most of you know, in the neon section.

P5007034 1995 DOHC MP PCM
P5007036 1996 DOHC MP PCM
P5007038 1997-99 DOHC MP PCM

A) has anyone tried any of these
B) do they work, got proof?

i have a 96 ESi MT talon w/ HKS Carbon-Ti so im thinking about buying the P5007036 1996 DOHC MP PCM. anyone who thinks this is ludacris or knows that its bunk lemme know. if not i shall proceed. after the V2 CAI. if it works i will post dyno before and after runs of both the V2 and then V2 w/ mopar PCM.

?? as well, if the PCM disables the EGR, is there really a need to get the blockoff kit?

i dont know about anyone else, but since i have a mopar (78 lil red express) im inclined to get the mopar PCM. id trust chrysler more than even A/FX. billions of R&D dollars does get ya some good shit on occasion, and since its domestic rice... its cheaper to get an entire PCM, rather than reprogram.

now if you have a turbo though this'd be a bad upgrade wouldn't it? advancing timing more is bad for boost.

If he gives me one, I have access to a dyno. I will test it. I know the owner of the shop amd could get in free. If you want me to test it for you, send me one. If I like it, I will buy it from you!! I really want to try one out. My AIM is, CopperEclipseGS, but I already emailed you.

I dont think he is trying to scam anyone on this board.

ALLmotor's second post, (http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=44018&mesg_id=44018&page=)
was posted 6 days after this one.
During those six days, he let his car run with the ECU, waiting for a problem. Surely enough, there were problems and he posted the second thread shortly after.

It's a good thing he let it sit in his car for 6 days and didnt send out any ECUS. He didnt hurt anybody, only himself. Thanks to him, we know that ECU wont work (if there even is an ECU that exists).

OMG, LOL this guy is so dumb.

But really guys he isn't trying to run a scam. This is what happened:

This guy went to a junk yard thinking he had found a 5spd ECU for the 2.4 engine, but he didn't. He claimed that it gave him good amounts of power, but somehow he finally tested it yesterday and got CEL out the ass.

If you said it gave you so much power last week, how come you only tested it yesterday??? ECU dont have to go thru a break in, what is being broken in??? LOLOLOL ECU learn airflow and other characteristics with in minutes.

This guy did try to sell me one for $50 + shipping. I declined because I knew he had the wrong ECU. And to make things worse he talked to me using AIM and didn't know that I was TalonSpeed and knew he had the wrong ECU. Talking about BUSTED!!!!!!!!

Then the guy claims to work at a Mitsu dealership, which he might. But he is one technician that aint working on my car!!!

And to end this sorry excuse for a thread, I have a printout of the ECU pin outs for the 1995-1999 2gnts!

All ECUs for the 1996 Sebring

Elec Cont Unit (ECU), (L fr eng comp), Conv, 6-153 (2.5L)

Please take note there isn't a MT option for the 2.4 engine. And by the way the 2.4 Engine isn't called the 420a either. The Neon 2.0 motor isn't called the 420a either, it is called the DR4E I think. DSM made up the name 420a and flipped the head and block around.

Geez guys, go easy on him. He was trying to do something to help everyone out, but it didn't work and he didn't sell them. I think its cool that someone has the balls to hook up something untried to his car, and share the info with us.

he never said that the threads had anything to do with one another.
to me that indicates a jagoff. on a similar topic anyone heard about that RX-7 forum in the northwest where a guy STOLE anothers car and then tried to part it out on the same forum? hes was an idiot, took pictures of parts with HIS ADDRESS ON THE BOXES!!, cops arrested this guy after the moderator w/ military training did a recon mission. i hope there is no one here thats dumb enough to try that. so i was waving my BS flag all around.

better safe than sorry.

weve all been burned, im just dont want this to be where we steal eachothers money using the trust of fellow 2GNTers.

next time let the people that HAVENT PM,IM,EMAILED you know whats up. i havent gotten in touch w/ you other than here. so take it from that perspective as well as your own.
