#41334, "Tranny and Clutch Swap Help"

Ok My synchros are going out and my Centerforce Dual Friction clutch is slipping like hell. If i am in 5th going 45mph and punch it ..it's like reving real high then slowly gripping and going. So I have a 95 Talon in my garage with motor and tranny still in it. The guy i got it from said the timing belt and and clutch was replaced about 5k miles ago. So what do I need to know before I swap that tranny and stock clutch into my Eclipse? Is there a write up on doing this? Any tips or tricks I should know would be great...... ThanX

should be a straight forward swap, make sure you have a jaw puller, those hubs can be a bitch to get off your drive axels...

Its been awhile since I've done mine so I'm sure I'm leaving out some details, but heres what I did.

I started by unbolting the lower a-arm on the passenger side and poping out the axle from the tranny. Then I swung it far away enough from the tranny that I could drop it without having to pull it off of the hub. Next I took out the battery, disconnected the shift linkages on top of the tranny as well as all of the sensors. Next I put a jack under the tranny and took off the motor mount on the firewall that is connected to the tranny (have fun with that one). Then I unbolted the bellhousing from the block and slid the tranny off of the motor. You have to twist and turn the tranny a bit as you lower it down, but it will get out that way. Then I just swaped out the clutch (remember to install the stock centering ring from the stock clutch) and installed the tranny in the reverse order of what I just said.

I know that's a pretty general breakdown of what I did, but hopefully it will give you an Idea of what to expect. It took me about 7 hours to complete the 1st time, but I wasted a lot of time figuring things out.
