IM almost done right now, I picked up both an eclipse one and the jeep one for 50 total, got a good price. Its been simple so far, and pretty fun doing so, just have a dremel and a bunch of cutting blades, and you will be set. fun stuff. Peace
At 8200 RPM a 122 cubic inch engine will need 290 cfm at 100% volumetric effiency, using the formula ((Max RPM/2)*Displacement)/1728. Rule of thumb is to go 10% over because a naturally aspirated engine can go above 100% volumetric efficiency because of cam overlap, header design, etc. Go above that and you kill low end because of reduced velocity, go below that you starve the engine for air at top end. 110% is volumetric efficiency is 319 cfm."

Yes I know that, but 55mm is big enough for NA applications, 60mm is to big and kills power.

He is trying to tell you that bigger is not always better. He is right. Matched airflow is far more important. Look at your application and goals before you go crazy. A lot of the same rules about airflow and velocity that we apply to exhausts also applies to intakes.

Ok, I am not a math whiz, but what about if you keep RPMs less than 8200? And also how much low end performance loss are we talking? Talon95Stang since you already have one installed how have you noticed your performance?

If you don't port/bore the intake mani, then the 60 will only really flow the size of the manifold opening(55? 56?). The 2 scenarios:
1) If you're NA just slap the bitch on. 2) If you're FI, slap it on and widen that intake port.
If you're NA and want to go FI down the road, all you'd need is a bit of intake work - no need to worry bout the TB. Either way you look at it(NA/FI), upgrading to the jeep TB can ONLY be a good thing.
I don't know. Maybe I've just got my head up my ass.

Just a quick question. If the TB is the right size for the flow and RPM do we assume that the intake runners can handle this increased air and gain power compared to the drag on the engine getting it there? Also since you seem to have a nifty formula for this, do you have a formula that finds the optimum runner length for the intake based on RPM? Thanks
