#22552, "Why is it reversed?"

I was just wondering..
Why is our 420A motor "reversed" compared to cars like Neons, Cirruses, Breezes and all those other car?
Did Mitsubishi want that?
Did Mitsubishi have any role in designing the 420A?
Thanks

It is not. The block sits exactly the same. it is the head that is reversed.

>Neons, Cirruses, Breezes and all those other car?
>Did Mitsubishi want that?

See below

>Did Mitsubishi have any role in designing the 420A?

No.

>Thanks

Don't know really why it is reversed in the other 420A cars. But be thankful it's the way it is facing in our cars, much easier to bolt on the turbo emoji Also, as far as i know, the 420A was designed by Chrysler, and had contracts with Mitsu to supply their cars with the 420A, or something along those lines...

except that it's a less heat efficent design.. cause the intake is in the back.. you get the most hot air blowing over the parts (from the radiator, exhaust, and head) while in the neon's and such.. the intake is in the front and the air is only heated by the radiator.
keep in mind i'm not talking about the air your motor intakes 'into' the engine.. but the air the blows over the engine parts.

The 420a in the Avenger is in the same place as ours.
The AEM CAI part# is the same and most header part#s are the same.
In fact, from the front seats all the way up is the same.
The Eclipse and the Avenger are about the same damn car just a different body.

size and shaping of body and where the motor mont locations have to be might play a big part in the way the motor has to go.

My thoughts are, because of the way the suspension and frame work run on the Ecllipse compared to the neon you could not have the exhaust in the back of our car. There are frame rails and steering rack etc in the way. The motor would have to be moved forward to make it work. And sincec the car was more concerned with the 4G63(IMO) they reworked the 420A to fit. Again this is only my theory, from a guy who didn't finish his engineering degree, so take it for what it's worth.
