Ok, I was looking at the crane cams and had a few questions. How big of a cam could I go without sacrificing to much with emmissions and still get a good power increase? What causes emmissions problems, the duration or the lift? And if I had some cam gears and mad it so they didnt overlap as much would that help?
Thanks ahead of time

in emissions they sniff for unused oxygen. bigger cams are gonna let more air in and out. letting out more oxygen will make your car fail emissions. they sniff for o2 cause all the carbon gasses that come out are oxides.

The overlap in the cams can cause unburned gas to get pulled through the combustion chamber, increasing emmissions. The reduced vacuum created by aftermarket cams, also will reducec effectiveness of systems like the EGR, but unless you live in CA this generally isn't a problem CA tests for COx and NOx, mnost other states only test for COx. The EGR system is designed to reducee the amount of nitrogen released into teh atmosphere. It actually does this at the cost of some Carbon emissions. With cam gears you should be able to detune the milder grinds to pass emissions, not sure about profiles used in the drag grinds. The biggest part of emissions for most is the cat. Have one that works and you should be okay. With a set of cam gears and at least an S-AFC I hope to be able to detune enough to pass emissions. It's something I have to worry about... yeay.
