What do you guys think would be better? An "open" CAI system or the ram air box mod of corbins on a regular short pipe? What about a closed cold air ram setup, i.e.-corbins box on cold air intake? opinions greatly appreaciated... thanks

I think it depends somewhat on where you live. If you live somewhere that never has standing water (or rarely does), the CAI would be ideal. If you get alot of rain and standing water, the airbox with cold air ducting would probably be better. Even with the bypass valve on an AEM CAI, I still wouldn't want to drive it in the wet (who wants a wet filter). I'm sure the CAI offers some power advantage over the airbox idea, so do it if you can. Another option is to get one of those filters that is enclosed except on the end. You hook another pipe up to the end of the filter. You can have a CAI without worrying about the filter getting wet. The bypass valve might still be a good idea here...otherwise you could still suck up water. Some things to consider...

Well I did the ghetto intake mod and it worx great. Sounds like a weak Turbo BOV when you shift and you can hear that sucka suck. I bought the short pipe off of ebay and added the ABS extension. I also fabricated a plexiglass cover for the bumper so no water would splash on it from underneath. I have driven my car in the rain like this and I have had no problem whatsoever! Oh yeah it's the same thing as any other CAI, my filter is on the end like an AEM. Hell I'm getting a turbo soon and I'm getting rid of it though but I might go and make a coldair extension for the turbine. Well check it out it's badass!
Oh yeah the AEM CAI is good if you want the CARB number though...
