#17752, "Intake mani spacer - arrived!"

Just got my "Corbin Industries" intake manifold spacer in the mail today. Very nice piece! The garolite material is actually very hard, much more so than I was expecting. Real high quality work. Hopefully we can get some numbers IAT sensor numbers posted up soon.

Any chance you'll do another run of these Corbin? There might be some more people interested out there.

Since this was the the first run, I want to see how things go before I commit to a second run. I want to hear results, suggestions, problems. I tried to think of everything, but what you guys think of them is what matters.

Corbin designed and made/outsourced a insulating spacer that goes between the upper and lower portions aof the intake manifold. the spacer insulates the upper manifold from getting hot and transfering that heat to the incoming air. simply put it lowers intake temps and gives more power.

But when u space out the intake manifold in our car, wouldn't that also bring our injectors further away from our head.. and making them less of a direct port injection??.

The 5 long bolts and washers replace the 5 stock bolts that connect the upper and lower manifolds. The 1 other long bolt replaces 1 stock bolt that ties the support bracket to the lower manifold. The little square scrap with a hole in it is a bracket spacer. See the picture below.

It keeps intake air cooler, meaning denser, meaning more power, theoretically emoji. It keeps the air cooler because the spacer transfer basically NO heat from the engine block itself, it also increases the length of the intake runners. Now I've got one too, (thanks Corbin) I haven't installed it yet because I'm waiting for my extra upper and lower intake manifolds and throttle body, gonna send them into ARD and have them port and polished and the TB bored emoji.

Corbin, are you planning to make any more? Maybe we can setup a larger groupbuy this time, like 15 to 20 buyers. I'd really like to see some intake temp comparisons. I remember people arguing that the air moves so fast, the temperature of the intake piping wouldn't matter. But I think it should, so hopefully there will be some good results.

I have just talked to the people at ard tonight and plan to send my TB and intake mani aswell they said they are going to have spacers of their own available within 1 week. So if you get the numbers and they prove to work I would definitely be interested in the group buy too. Could save some cash while supporting a fellow 2gnt member emoji

Well its possible that its moving to fast, but that would mean race cars moving fast would overheat since the radiators wouldnt be working as well. But what do I know, aint no thermodynamist emoji

Ahhh...ARD will be making spacers within the week. That sounds deathly suspicious. I thought I could go at least a month before someone else started selling them. I guess I won't be making another batch.

Corbin, you engineered it, and took the time to develop it. I think you should start a new post about another groupbuy. I'd rather support a pioneering 2gnt member like you than copycats. It's just like that one company copying Buschur's intercoolers and pissing him off. I hate it when people copy other's ideas, so I think you should keep making em if there is interest.

Well its nice to see competition but just 1 week after, damn. That is kind of suspicious. ARD can sell all theirs to the new 2gnt crew a year from now but I would rather buy yours now after you guys get us some #'s.

Ya I totally agree. Especially since it's been 5 years of 2gnt with no intake mani spacers, then Corbin comes up with this great idea, engineers it, and now someone wants to copy it. Corbin, we'll support you, so please consider making another batch after we get some results from this batch. Thanks!

If you call ARD, or email them and talk to Owen, i'm sure he will wait or even drop it entirely. He's a cool guy, and i'm sure he would understand. They aren't the kind of people to jump all over someone else's innovation just to make a buck.

Thanks for the support guys, I do appreciate it. I'll think about calling them, just to see what they have to say. But I realize that I don't own the spacer concept, I didn't patent anything. If people like these first spacers, I'll make a second run of 10 or so pieces. I bought a shitload of bolts, enough for more than 2 runs.

Someone mentioned the speed of the air in the manifold. This is true; at higher operating speeds, each unit of air will have less time in contact with the manifold. All things being equal, each unit of air will pick up less heat. I am expecting the best gains at lower RPMs. I am also expecting a definite improvement in off-idle response. You know when you are idling in traffic in the summer...you hit the gas and the car feels all boggy. Very little air is moving through the manifold while idling. So the air has a long time to heat up. A cooler manifold will keep that volume of air cooler during idle. When you hit the gas, I expect better engine response because of all that available cooler air. If there is any improvement, I think it will be worth the $67.

It was just suggested by Jody at ard and owen was in the backround saying about 1 week I was not aware Corbin was the first to do this or I would have e-mailed him privately. I wouldn't want to get my TB and Intake back all f!@#$% up. Not that ARD would ever do something like that but you never know. Who knows If all works out maybe they will even consider selling corbins for him (does a shop really have the time to mass produce them). Corbin do you have the time? How well do they work? These questions are all yet to be answered so lets not jump to conclusions yet. However if they do work I would rather support Corbin Industries as I have said earlier.
