Is it necessary to remove the woodruff key to remove the sprocket? If so, how do you get it out?

IIRC, no.

but if you have to get the key off, take a flat head screw driver and lightly hammer it towards the sprocket. it's in a tight groove and will loosen out of it after a few taps

You can't remove the key while it's still under the sprocket.

The gear must be removed for the key to be removed otherwise it would defeat the purpose of the system.

As far as I know there is only one woodruff key. What other one are you thinking off?

LOLL nooo.. not yet at least. Anywayz, no, there's a" key" that u align the crank sprocket on, then there's one further out than that. I might be crazy but I need to get a pic and share. I might be confusing it w/ the 2.4 crank

Negative ghostrider. 2.4 crank is the same except it is a little longer to account for balance shaft sprocket.
