Ok here is the scenario...over the last week or so I've experienced a stuttering at 2700rpms. First thought was shitty gas, but new tank and it is still there. My next thoughts were fuel filter and plugs/wires. BUT...here is the monkey wrench. When I got to hook up my code reader (cheap walmart one, but have used it probably 2 dozen times with no problem at all) it reports "No powertrain DTCs or freezeframe data is currently store in memory..." even though i'm clearly throwing a CEL so i go to advance and try to use their code reader (pocket actron) and the thing doesn't even register a connection. I checked the fuses to make sure i didn't have a large fuse or fusible link out and they are good, reset the ECU (disconnecting negative) and still the same problem. I'm thinking there a problem with my OBD II connector is bad somehow, or something internal with my ECU is shot and i need a new one. Ideas?

Moved this into Perf/Engine since it was the stock ECU.

Only thing I can suggest to try a different ECU in the car. I had a 1995 Neon that could not connect and was causing all sorts of issues. Changed the ECU, no more issues.

ok got it. i thought it might fall under engine management, my bad. well i'm in the midst looking for another ECU to try so far not having luck.

I've found with my 95 that depending on the brand of reader I usually have to "lie" to the reader and say that the car is a 96, and even then sometimes I have to have the engine running to get the scanner to read the car.
