Use the SEARCH!!!! And read until your eyes bleed. Then, read some more. It's not that simple and easy. If it was everyone would be doing it.

There's a difference between slang and lazy text speak. Type like an adult and you'll be treated like one. Those of us that have been around here for a while have a lot of help and information to share, and we're happy to share it but we don't like having to translate the laziness beforehand. In most cases the people that aren't willing to do their best to use the english language properly have proven themselves to be the types of people that nobody really wants to deal with in the long run.

I did some research and just want to know if this would be good idea as a start. I plan on getting cai,headers,Cat back exhaust,msd ignition wires, and if anyone else has suggestions on what else would be great. I'm not to great with great with cars yet but we all have to start somewhere. An after all that I plan to save up a little to get rebuild kit off howellautomotive http://howellautomotive.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=402

An after I rebuild, I plan to get the Hahn RaceCraft turbo kit. Sound good? Or if anyone could help on some suggestions that would be great. I am aware that getting headers and cai would be pointless if I'm getting turbo but I am doing engine rebuild first and then turbo, Its a long process so I just want some mods on car before i start saving up. Thanks for any suggestions.

There have been alot of members on this site who have had horrible experience with howell automotive. Just off of the feedback I've seen from others, I would highly recommend you source somewhere else on a rebuild kit. Low comp. pistons and forged rods for turbo. I think ebay has a kit with wiseco pistons and eagle rods for around $800. But if you decide to rebuild, do it right the first time so you won't have to do it again later.

Yeah, don't give Howell the time of day. They consistantly have proven to be the worst providers of customer service in the DSM community.

Good job on actually posting like a big boy. emoji

I think I got an idea of where your goals are right now. And looking at your experience and goals, I would say you're off to a good start.

You're going to be limited by our baby-ass ECU, but you can add a little pop with a couple more items. You may also look into a UDP and a 55-57mm throttle body. Both items that will give you a little more "scoot around" power. You should be able to install these your self.

And both of those you can use with turbo (though you may eventually want to upgrade to a 60mm throttle body - depending on how much power you go turbo).

If you are building for the eventual goal of boost, why waste your money on CAI, header, etc? If you buy those parts, you will end up pulling them all off and selling/junking them anyway.

I suggest you purchase parts that you will be able to keep on the motor when you go turbo.

Yea I know but it will be a while before I get turbo. I got to save up for rebuild kit and then after I get that, I will have to save up for turbo so I am getting those mods now so I can at least have some kind of mods on car.

It's all about how deep your pockets are at this time. Assuming that you are going with a name brand CAI and header, you are going to spend somewhere in the ball park around $800 without shipping. That's about half that it would cost you to piece together your own turbo kit. Most members on here have been piecing together their own kits for about $1600-$2000 which are stage two kits with intercooler and are boosting 6-8psi on stock bottom end. The BST section is full of members parting out turbo kits at decent prices.

And later as your knowledge for turbo and appetite for boost increases, you can rebuild your block to run higher boost.

Just my 2 cents.

I like that idea but I got 147,000 miles on engine right now I don't know if boost with that many miles would be good choice. I just want to be sure before I boost car thats why I am buying mods now and saving up for rebuild kit and then turbo, I dont want to make mistake and boost car and engine blow or some of that nature then it would cost me more money in long run. What U guys think??

Yup, I'm with you on that. As for a CAI, you can get them off E-bay for a whole lot cheaper. IMO nothing wrong with that. BUT I'm partial to the "Ram-air" set-up. Its basically 1/2 the length of the CAI and in my experience in the 1/4 mile, it is more effective. A direct comparison showed I had better times with the "Ram Air".

So you put out a few hundy extra for parts that you can't use on the turbo build (maybe you re-coup $50 seling those parts as used). In the mean time you are assembling a built bottom end at your pace.

If you can justify the extra $250ish then fine.

It will take me month to get the money I need to get a good rebuild kit so in mean time I can get a little more hp with the cai n sum other mods... Know of any good rebuild kits on some sites?? I need a good estimate on how much I need to save up.

I got this rebuild kit on my old eclipse and i also got my friend to get it too. My car ran on 80,000m before i crashed it...and my friend has like 90,000miles on his...so it isn't bad at all...

Anyway, if you have the money, i would get the bottom block done now so you dont have to worry about it later...

So, if you were to get some eagle rods and je low comp pistons, and the rebuild kit, then when you get the money to continue, buy a turbo kit and fuel managment...

I think that the best option for the rebuild would be to go down to your local machine shop and get them to order up your parts(assuming you have a good machine shop). That way you can get it hot tanked and bored included in the price. I would also suggest getting ARP head studs at that time as well. And you should be looking at around 1500 or so dollars for the rebuild kit, hot tank, etc.
And as far as modding now, I would suggest getting just the UDP, Throdle body, Port match your IM to get the most out of the TB, And a cheap ebay exhaust. That will be plenty of money on modding and you can use all those parts on the turbo build.

I'm not familiar with that kit , but my concerns are; I don't know what kind of tensioner is there; I don't know what kind of headgasket is there; those pistons are not forged (which is what you want when doing a turbo rebuild) plus a few more.

But if you are doing a basic stock/get her back on the road rebuild, then that would probably do the trick. The question of course is how long and how well.

Your best bet is to get the parts separately. IMO, E-bay works fine for pistons and rods. Something like this;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JE-Pistons-Eagle-Rods-Dodge-Neon-420a-2-0L-ECB-ECC-_

Then you can go to a place like Modern Performance. For bearings and gaskets etc.

Or you can get this off Modern's Site;

http://www.modernperformance.com/bottom-engine-rebuild-9599-neon-dohc-p-1606.html

As pointed out, sometimes the bearings will be cheaper at the machine shop you go to.

In addition Rock Auto may be less expensive;

Thanks bullet for providing that information was useful accept one link was unavailable. My question to u is do you think its a good idea to just go to shop and explain to them my goals and what I want?? An have them do the piecing together. They will know a lot more then what I know and I might be able to save money by letting them put it together.

1 typo? Really? I don't think so. Typos are honest mistakes that are easily overlooked. A quick, unintentional misspelling or the like. We all make typos.

Lame text speak is just sheer laziness.

Many people think it's not a big deal, but in reality it is. It gives us a little window into your character. If you're too lazy to bother using the english language properly, does that mean that you're going to be too lazy to bother taking the amazing advice and information here and applying it correctly? Possibly not, but you're presenting yourself in a manner that says, "I don't care about anything." and that's all that we can see.

Call me an asshole if you like, it's nothing new to me, but I'm trying to make you a better 2GNT'er, and maybe even a better person.

Seriously though, Erik is correct. Present yourself as an adult, if you wish to be treated as one. A few minor errors are easily excused. But, we aren't your texting buddies. And yes, your balls will continue to be busted should it persist.

Think of it this way; Would you waltz into a job interview wearing shorts hanging down past your ass with a sideways ballcap, and address the interviewer as "bro" or "dawg?"

Same principle here.

There is more knowledge and practical experience available for this platform, on this site, than any other on the web. And we're happy to assist you, if you help yourself first.

You call it laziness haha, so since I made 1 typo I am lazy now?? Your a real judge of character I tell ya. Like I said when your use to typing a certain way it sticks with you, I am not writing a college paper so my writing slips a little. That is no reason to be judgmental on my character.I have seen numerous people on here go the short route and use n (an) which is lazy according to you and you even responded to them but not about their writing so instead of proof reading everyone of my reply's like your a professor and just relax. I am responding as a adult if I make one typo it does not mean I am not being professional ( I do not know where you got that at ) But honestly I am sorry man I will work harder at it but lay off a little.

Whoa now. Seriously, I’m going to have to agree with Erik and Paul here. This is our community, our home. Everyone that replied to your post welcomed you and gave advice. You wouldn't just walk into someone's home without wiping your feet first and obeying the rules of the home would you?

On top of that I feel that they have been very lenient with you. It's ok to have a misspell or two, but just about every post by you is grammatically incorrect. They are just trying to correct you early on before it gets to a point where we can't understand your text, which can be very frustrating.

I'm not being a prick, but me and many others would agree that lazy writing style reflects your character. So, in other words members on here will think if you are too lazy to check your grammar, then are you worth the time and effort to respond.

Word of friendly advice would be not to start pissing people off. Use a spell check if you have to. Hell, I know I use it plenty of times. emoji

Alright with that off my chest, lets all get along here.
