The little barrel is just a suppresor device for radio interference. It is normally attatched to the block by the starter. Don't even need it (I don't have one on two of my cars) but you can move it back down to block.
The "Partheon" is your coolant system. I'm a little confused about what you have and don't have. You need the coolant overflow bottle, otherwise the system will not be able to expand (or you will end up low coolant because it has leaked out all over the ground at one point. Thus causing the Partheon to appear).
Best bet is to take a pic of the passenger side area in your engine bay, so we can see whats going on with the top of the thermostat housing and the coolant bottle. Captain Caveman
