I just got done putting back together the engine in one of my 1996 2gnt I have 2 of them. I know for sure its in time but when i tried to start it, it turns over half way and stops then the starter just stops no noise or nothing. so i thought it might be the starter so I took a wrench and turned the crankshaft backwards then foward again and it stops cant get passed half a revolution. Any idea of what else could be making this do this besides the valves? And if a valve was down would it be bent now? I know for sure it was in time ive timed like 10 of these cars no fails yet.

sounds like a flywheel bolt or something in that area. if it's a valve then the valve's are trash for sure, they are weak anyways and if you even drop one off a table then it has the chance of bending, they are not designed to take a hit like that, only in the natural direction against the valve seat are they strong. are you Atx or Mtx?

Sounds to me like you are out of time and your hitting a valve against a piston.

EASY: Timing is off.
MEDIUM: Anything in between...
HARD: Piston(s) installed 180*

Pull your spark plugs and retime the engine. Be sure you can get a full 306* out of the crank before you try to start that thing.

*ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE ENGINE WILL SPIN FREELY BEFORE INSTALLATION IMO.*

I always check for 306* rotation....lol. 360*
