#121735, "smoke after waterpump installation"

Welp, right after the waterpump installation and pouring the coolant back in I tried running my car. And everything seemed fine while I was driving; the temperature needle was slightly below the middle. However, lots of smoke began to come out of my exhaust with a strong smell of the coolant...is that suppose to happen with a new waterpump? I didnt continue driving but I will test it out again tomorrow morning. But I wanted to make sure I didnt do anything wrong. Is the smoke suppose to be a normal occurence just to warm it up?

There is no reason to expect any kind of smoke after a water pump change or timing belt change. It should come back to life just as it was before the repairs (other than "burping" some air out of the cooling system when you first start it up).

Assuming you installed the gasket correctly, and torqued the bolts down evenly to spec, everything should be good.

my guess is on the gasket....coolant leaks on the block and creates smoke.
